About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Road trip across Canada Summer 2017 to move up to the Northwest Territories for one year before starting Law School September 2018.

ABOUT ME

I consider myself to be a bit of an adventure addict.. For the early part of my life I grew up on a boat, travelling throughout the great lakes and beyond. Following this, I consider myself to have been raised in a cabin near Algonquin Park Ontario, Canada. I am a photographer, avid kayaker and canoeist, backpacker, and generally relaxed dude who takes things as they come. I like warm hugs on a cold night, the sound lions make early in the morning, and setting polar-bear defence fences before sleeping under 24 hours of daylight. Travelling isn't a hobby, it's what I do.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life because I love to. I am passionate about everything I do and if I am unhappy in a situation you won't find me there long. Life is and always has been a beautiful gift, one that I am humbled to be living every day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I firmly believe in providing others the same level of treatment as you would like to be treated with yourself. I participate in Couchsurfing 100% by offering a place to stay no matter where I am. In fact, I promote where I am living and the activities one can do there wholly by offering to show Couch Surfers around, assist in their stay in any way I can, and offering a genuine local, cultural experience to anyone interested. I also make a point of Couch Surfing on any trip to encourage cultural sharing and a global education.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been very fortunate to have hosted a number of people at my cabin in Midwestern Ontario and to have been hosted myself in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Since then, I hosted a couple from Latvia for one weekend which ended up turning into a nearly 2000km trip to the far north and 5 months of surfing with me. I have had only the best experiences so far and look forward to many more!

Interests

I spend my time canoeing, winter camping in extreme arctic conditions, snowshoeing/x-country skiing, running, and generally just wandering around. I also love to cook and entertain along with my collection of music from around the world - much of which has found itself stuffed into my pack before returning home from a trip.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Things You See Only When You Slow Down, Remains of the Day, The Castle, Around the World in 180 Days, Old Man and the Sea, The Raven's Gift, The Celestine Prophecy, Last Child in the Woods, Closer to the Ground, and too many others to list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Observed the most spectacular northern lights in the Cree community of Whapmagoostui, Attended the graduation of a brilliant young student in a remote northern community with extremely low graduation rates after having helped her study for her exams, and finally I have indeed joined-in with a ridiculously wide hippo yawn in the Serengeti of Tanzania.
