About Me
If I think too much about myself, I start to drown in TV clichés about the youth today. Suffice it to say, after graduating with great(ly unemployable) degrees, I spent a lot of time exploring crossroads - both internally and externally. After almost 3 decades on this planet, I still question everything.
They call me "indecision girl" as if rock-paper-scissors were a not-so-secret super-power! It kind of is, though: countless times, I saved potentially conflictual situations with the good ol' toss-a-coin/rock-paper-scissors, only to have my resulting emotions point me in the "right" direction.
I would describe myself as more of an observer (I use my anthropological background as an excuse!), but I can be pretty flexible, socially speaking, learning to adapt to the environment I find myself in. I don't expect personal coherence from anyone, but I appreciate adaptability and curiosity in people.
I like hiking solo (if you call being with nature "solo", which some people mistakenly do) and finding new ways to keep myself entertained.
I'm curious about the universe and everything/everyone populating it.
I spent most of my adult life moving around, growing roots in several places, watching the leaves turn different colors throughout the years. I'm struggling to find a balance that allows me to build nests with the people I care about, and, at the same time, to continue exploring this wonderful planet...
Some tips I've learned along the way:
* be spontaneous, moderately, and be patient, always. (that doesn't always work out for me)
* i practice an absurd relativism which allows me to accept and respect different or opposing beliefs and interests to mine. (i'm getting better at this every day)
* finally, (re-)discover the beauty in everyone and everything around you.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
when i first started surfing, i had amazing experiences: everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, i was getting my butt couch-saved at the last minute every time, and meeting inspiring people along the way.
then i started hosting a bit in my tiny student dorm rooms (in Scotland and in Denmark), and enjoyed a new aspect of CS, one wherein i got to practice my hospitality skills :) feeding people and making sure they're happy continues to be one of my over-arching goals!
i was away from CS for a couple of years as i struggled to complete my masters degree and as i didn't have a stable residence, moving from one friend's place to another, practicing an informal variant of CS... and now i notice all the ways in which CS has changed.
since hosting in Copenhagen, we've sometimes had les-than-ideal guests who treated us/our home like a hostel. still, i maintain the belief in the old CS - people coming together in unlikely situations, discovering their common ground, becoming familiar in a matter of days, and leaving stronger bonds behind. now that i'm living a more stable life, i love hosting and giving back to the community that has truly enriched my life, but i've also become more discerning about the people i welcome into my life.

Music, Movies, and Books
Anything that has the potential to surprise me pleasantly and move me. If you don't use your senses (what you see, read, hear and listen to, among others) to challenge your assumptions about reality, then what's the point? According to last.fm/spotify, my top 3 artists are Sigur Rós, Cat Power, Sufjan Stevens. Which is true, but only scratches the surface.
Let's start with: What life-changing book have *you* read lately?
I have a few staples (i.e.: books I can't be rational about): Lord of the Rings, Dune, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...
Besides that, I have a fondness for lyrical, surrealist, subversive writing.
Movie-wise, I am very eclectic in my favourites, but I have a soft spot for queer-themed movies and visually exciting work. I prefer scifi and fantasy, and documentaries, but will fall in love with anything that presents me with breathtaking imagery. Big fan of some TV shows...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
jumping out of a plane (!); being surprised by people; almost dying while climbing some huge rocks in iceland for the most wonderful and tranquil view from the top; midnight swims in the north sea; trusting people (!); learning how to ride a bike at 23 and then crashing into a wall; not feeling like life is elsewhere; learning to listen to horses;
(a work in progress)
Teach, Learn, Share
* i'm always on the lookout for exciting (vegetarian/vegan/raw) recipes and cooking a meal with friends is one of my favourite activities!
* sustainable living in all forms: interested in practicing it, learning more about it, and sharing it with others.
* i'm also quite interested in learning new languages or sharing my knowledge of my language(s).
* i used to know how to knit and make bead-bracelets but lack of practice has taken its toll. i'm really keen on arts/crafts/diy-type projects.
* i haven't practiced the glow/fire poi in a long while.
* i like to cut/shave hair (my own or others'). not sure how good i am at it, but it's for free and it usually comes with a hug.
* teach me how to ride a bike again and you'll have my everlasting gratitude! i've promised myself i wouldn't leave denmark without learning how to ride in traffic...
