About Me

I'm just about to embark on a new adventure, quitting my career of 12 years to become a mature student and study wildlife and conservation management at SRUC, Aberdeen. I'm currently based in Edinburgh and looking for some kind hosts who may be able to help out for the first few weeks (may just be a few nights at a time for the days I need to be on campus) until my partner and I have arranged more permanent accommodation in Aberdeen. To be clear it would just be me looking for a couch.

I'm a very easy-going, friendly, and approachable person. Tidy, clean, and very considerate of other people's space and environment. I'm not a big drinker and mostly eat a vegetarian diet. I am generally very independent and always happy to do things by myself but I also love having the company of people who share similar interests and hobbies also.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

From a very young age I was out on adventures, climbing mountains, jumping in the cold North Sea and exploring new places. My family moved regularly and our holidays were far from conventional - we hitched lifts, camped wildly and stayed with strangers. I was hooked from a very young age, not only the constant desire to travel but also the joy in discovering the kindness in the people we met along the way. For me couch surfing encompasses the experiences of my childhood, the excitement of seeing new places and meeting incredible people.

I was a regular attendee at couch surfing meetings in my home city of Edinburgh and although I wasn't always in a position to host accommodation wise, I very often had guests for dinner and the occasional dress up party.

Interests

Cooking is my passion, I'm at my happiest in the kitchen, with good music and great company! I especially like to cook Asian dishes as I love working with spice.

I love the great outdoors - hiking, water sports, swimming in the sea and I love to take my camera along and see what I can capture a long the way!

In the evening I really enjoy going to see live music, especially jazz and folk. I really love going to small and intimate venues and seeing local artists.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my most regular listened to artists:
Leon Bridges, First Aid Kit, Laura Marling, Nathanial Rateliff, Johnny Flynn, Alabama Shakes, Maggie Rogers, Lola Marsh, Sylvan Esso, Black Pumas, Frazey Ford, Michael Kiwanuka

I really enjoy books about the natural world and conservation, and fictional writing that focuses on the human condition and self-discovery.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my most memorable days was snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, overcoming my fear of open water swimming, seeing the amazing variety of corals, fish and swimming with green turtles.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, so I'd certainly like to share a good homemade meal with you. I'm always keen to talk about nature and conservation too.
