About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live a full life, making diverse music, and while surrounded by good, talented, intelligent people of good taste.

ABOUT ME

I'm a professional musician (banjo/singing/etc.) relatively new to Detroit, from...lots of other places. I'm doing my best to life a rich full life. Hospitality is extremely important to me, as well as self-improvement. I'm 35 and think my life has gotten better every year.

PHILOSOPHY

Hospitality is one of the most important virtues. I respect people who open their homes to help other people, and also believe it brings good luck and a richer life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couch surfed around Europe: Italy, Germany, Sweeden, Estonia.... I would host more people myself, but I am often hosting musicians and other people I meet outside of couchsurfing.org

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's been great so far!

Interests

I love meeting people and having an honest discussion - that way it's always interesting no matter who you meet. I like good food, good laughter, good dancing, the good feeling of exhaustion after completing something wonderful.... Musically speaking, I have a background in traditional folk styles, but I am more interested in using those techniques to create something fresh and uniquely meaningful. I play the banjo, but really I just use that instrument to make the music I want to play.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing things happen all the time. Here's a random example: One day I was out on my bike in the industrial district and I happened upon TWO different marching bands practicing on the empty streets. The first was a hard-core syncopated drum corps, the other was a funk marching party band...so I spend the evening dancing impromptu to great free music.

Teach, Learn, Share

I do teach music, especially giving banjo lessons. I've also worked a lot on my own house, and I'd love to share the experience of moving to Detroit with anyone who's curious.

Countries I’ve Visited

Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom
