About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meet new people, make art, make stories, find some adventure. surround myself with good people and beauty as much as possible.

ABOUT ME

I left Maine back in October to travel around the country reconnecting with folks, meeting new ones, exploring new places and myself, looking for a potential new home and also how to be better at home in the whole wide world. I can get restless. But I also crave and value community. I want to travel a lot and meet amazing people. And eventually find a community to settle into... but maybe never really settle.

I'm really interested in how people are spending their time and energy and hearts creating the world they want to live in. I want to meet you and get to know what you care about and what makes you come alive.

I like people (see what kinds below!). I'd say I'm generally interested in the world and in learning more every day. I like exploring new and everyday places.

I'm interested in building solidarity, race/class/gender, oppression and liberation, communication, and human interaction and connection. I love the feeling of deep, genuine connection to others and to nature. It's well worth the work :) I like being involved in social justice/change to be a pretty big part of my life even when it's not my day job. Same with creation in one form or another. And whatever it is that you create in your daily life, I'm interested in hearing about/seeing it.

I'm generally a very open and easy going person who's rarely bored. I can be equally happy drinking tea in a quiet living room, taking a long walk, or out all night for drinks and dancing.

PHILOSOPHY

.... oh, this is hard to put into words... so a few things:

Empathy. Connectivity. Approaching from a learning stance. The inherent light in all of us - we've gotta figure out how to see it in ourselves and others and what we do with it when we find it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met up with several CSers in various places in the US and Mexico and have had some really great hosting experiences. I've helped organize local meetups in places I've lived and I'm currently doing much more surfing than hosting, as I've been traveling for many months. I've yet to have a negative experience. It's a pretty beautiful thing, if you ask me.

I've stayed on a lot of couches, floors and pitched tents in peoples backyards. I've lived for extended amounts of time in communal spaces and have been using this site much more over the last few months. They've all been great experiences.

I can't wait to visit some of you wonderful people and see the slice of the world you call home.

Interests

So much! (including...) walking around, train tracks, meeting people, engaging conversations, new ideas, coffee, coincidence, nice pens, resourcefulness, bugs, our interconnectedness and subsequent responsibility, liberation, conflict mediation, listening, talking, traveling, languages, migration, letters, sustainable living, community work, youth leadership development and organizing, how to be a better ally, audio documentary, making new stuff out of old stuff, learning about where people come from and how their parents met, public transportation, thrift stores, ragtag crews and underdogs, art (especially the street/public kind), simplifying, and all kinds of love.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a really barebones list, I guess...

MUSIC: the mountain goats, defiance ohio, songs:ohia, nana grizol, madeline, jarabe de palo, patty griffin, le tigre, hurray for the riffraff, dark dark dark, kimya dawson, talking heads, os mutantes, animal collective, something to dance to, live stuff right in front of me, most things with a good deep beat, my friends when they play music, anything you want to show me.

... you know some folky stuff, some anti-folky stuff, some indie, some dance-y, some stuff i've never heard.

and BOOKS... anything by vonnegut, reveille for radicals, where the sidewalk ends, the biggest house in the world, off the map, cold anger, teenage liberation handbook: how to quit school and get a real job and education, the disposessed, animal dreams, no more prisons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To celebrate the new millennium I did a firewalk (7 feet of hot coals). That was probably one of the most amazing experiences I've had for a whole lot of reasons.

Sheepherding and supporting Navajo elders on Black Mesa in northern Arizona. <3 and struggle.

I've also seen a lot of sunsets and sunrises that have struck my fancy and been the subject of beautiful happenstance. I've met a lot of amazing people "by accident" and talked for hours. Some of these people are now a few of the most important in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

What a better economy!

One "practical" thing I can teach is language, either English or Spanish. and there must be other things... I taught a recent surfer to make stencils.

I would love to learn Brazilian Portuguese or Creole, printmaking, to walk on stilts, carpentry skills, any sort of craft really, more about gardening, fermentation, and to cook yummy foods. I'd also like to learn to drum, play the spoons, and practice Capoeira.
