About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the most of the time I have

ABOUT ME

Anti-capitalist. Feminist. Environmentalist. Social justice activist. Passionate for the Icelandic horse. Pro adventures, skip diving, vegan food, spontaneity.

PHILOSOPHY

"Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes."
- Jack Handey

“If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

- Indigenous Australian activist group

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I went off couchsurfing after the Facebook joining wave resulted in me (an environmentalist) getting lots of requests by people who were looking for free accommodation for oil&gas conferences...I'm back now and hoping for some better chat now

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had so many great experiences staying with people whom I barely knew or didn't know at all - I was able to travel to many places in the US and to the UK thanks to their hospitaliy. Not all of it was official CouchSurfing but the general idea was the same.

Interests

I love animals, music, literature, photography, though I feel like I spend way too little time on those things.
My vegan ideals conflict with my wish to be around animals a lot.
I'm trying to learn Icelandic right now so that's a big interest, and also just learning about the culture of this country.
Ar home I play the cello. I love languages and writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies...there's a German movie called "Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei" that I love, then there's Once Upon a Time in the West, Billy Elliot, Brokeback Mountain, Buddy, ....
I mostly listen to rock, punk, old pop, some indie...among my favourite musicians/bands are, in no particular order, The Kinks, The Smiths, The Libertines, The Who, Billy Bragg, The Clash, Yeti, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Donovan, David Bowie, I Am Kloot,... and I've just started listening to Kaizers Orchestra!

Favourite books...it's hard, because I don't think I can rank them or think of all of them. I love 1984 by George Orwell, Twelve by Nick McDonell, Artemis Fowl, "Der Schwarm" by Frank Schätzing, many books by Paul Auster and Ian Rankin,...
Right now I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trained wild horses in Iceland...actually, training and taming any horse is always a gift.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I make a mean vegan cake.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom
