About Me

CURRENT MISSION

insert inspirational mission statement here.

ABOUT ME

I'm extremely easy going guy who enjoys a good brew and good conversation, meeting new people of course (or I wouldn't be on here!). I love travelling, riding my push-bike around on tour, listening to country music and generally existing in a pretty sweet deal.

PHILOSOPHY

I guess I'm here to try and enjoy my time on Earth. I don't know when I may get hit by a bus and not have any time left so I try to enjoy each day. Cliched as all hell, yes, but it's true. It's also the justification I tend to use for doing stupid things every now and again. As well as eating too much ice cream or drinking too much beer. Life's too short not to. That's the one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love using Couchsurfing.com to meet some members of communities other than mine, get beneath the tourist side of things and actually meet locals. See a culture you don't get at the sightseeing locations. And of course allow people the opportunity to do the same with my community - as I see it, I can't expect people to host me unless I extend the same courtesy to others. So come on down!

HOWEVER, I dislike freeloaders who are simply looking for a place to stay with no mind to meeting me as an individual. You know who I'm referring to: the person who sends out 100 requests to the 100 people available in one particular place without taking the time to see if the host may actually be suitable for them personally. So PLEASE, if you've taken the time to read my profile and you think surfing my couch could be a cool experience, just mention in your email what you thought was interesting about my profile in the first place. That way I know you're genuinely keen on crashing with me rather than just looking for a free place for a few days. I'll be far more likely to host you if this is the case! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed in Gillette, Wyoming with a charming girl and had an absolute ball. I basically felt like a member of her family when I left, which was hard to do! That sort of generosity and immediate affinity with someone is hard to find and I am very thankful that Couchsurfing allowed me to experience it!

Interests

In no particular order, I like: vinyl records; swapmeets; cowboy boots; golf; horse racing; cinemas and DVDs on the couch; poker; pool; country music; pubs/bars; akubras; 80s hair metal; beer; basketball; cycling; bonfires; pearl snap shirts; steak; belt buckles and blue jeans; camping; AFL football (mad Dockers fan); talking; travelling; dancing. Probably a hundred other things too, which I will remember later on.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Just about any zombie/werewolf/vampire flick with a half a plot. Favourite movies/actors include: The Departed, Lord Of The Rings, We Own The Night, The Notebook, Pursuit Of Happiness, Seven Pounds, Lonesome Dove. Actors include: Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg, Robert De Niro etc. I do like most types of movies, and have a sappy streak. Love good dramas, action flicks, romantic comedies, comedies, horror and all sorts. Very ecclectic.

Music: Love country music above all else. Traditional, honky tonk and bluegrass stylings. Alan Jackson, George Strait, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Connie Smith, Loretta Lynn, Faron Young, Ricky Skaggs. Also a bit of classic rock: Bruce Springsteen, Queen, ZZ Top, Billy Joel, Bob Seger. Hate rap. Lots of different stuff but mainly country.

Books: I like a lot of the classics (a lot of children's stuff, mainly) but they are dated as I don't really read that much. Dracula was good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode around the South Island of New Zealand in 2007/2008 on my pushbike. 2 months, 2200 odd km's, a lot of road and lots of AWESOME times had. Went to Tasmania and did the same thing in a slightly shortly timeframe the year before.
