To be done with my PhD thesis and take a long break for traveling.

ABOUT ME

It's almost impossible to be objective when it comes to describing myself, maybe that's why I don't like it. Nevertheless, I can say that I'm a friendly and open-minded guy who enjoys traveling, learning about cultures and sharing a lifetime with nice people around.

I pursue my PhD degree in Istanbul but now I live in Göttingen (DE) as a visiting researcher.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I use this platform when I would like to be hosted by locals, meet locals or other travelers, and ask for local advice in the towns I am planning to visit. You're also very welcome to be my guest!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been hosted in five different cities: Wroclaw, Vilnius, Bologna, Bremen, Dresden. All experiences were flawless. I was not only given a place to sleep but also was accompanied by great hosts and their friends in these cities.

Also, I attended some couchsurfing events in Vilnius and Kuala Lumpur which were quite fun.

Centres d'intérêt

Beside my academic interests (which i suppose here is not the right place to mention about); I like photography, sports (running, basketball, football, table tennis), novels and stories, arthouse films and film festivals, music, art events, local food, craft beers. And of course goes without saying: Traveling!

I enjoy many different musical genres depending on my mood and what I feel like listening at that moment.
Some of my favorite genres: Indie, Alternative Rock, Trip-Hop, Electronica, Jazz, Classical
Some of my favorite artists/bands nowadays: Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead, Sigur Ros, The XX, Tame Impala, Daft Punk, Röyksopp, Moderat, Bonobo, Trentemoller, Kings of Convenience, Erik Satie, Dave Brubeck (and various masters of Jazz and Classical music. If I start writing all musicians I like, that would take forever.)
Well, so many films and books as well. I'll not count them all.
I think my all time favorite director is Ingmar Bergman. Other favorites are Tarkovsky, Kieslowski, and Kiarostami.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Teaching is part of my job, so if you're interested in Statistics, I won't mind giving a boring lecture :)
I will be happy to share my experience about my hometown Istanbul and other places I have been so far.
For the last few years, I have a keen interest in photography. I can share what I know even though I am not a professional at all. And it would also be nice to learn more about it from those who are more experienced.
I would like to learn about the culture and the life of the locals in the places I visit.
I can also teach you some Turkish.
I am eager to learn anything that would broaden my horizon. That's why I also like meeting people who have different interests than me.
