About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To cross the atlantic by boat

ABOUT ME

Well!

I had finished uni in brisbane Australia, and realised I couldn´t be an office girl just yet! the Yachting industry in the Mediterranean had been mentioned by a good friend a couple of times. I knew I liked boats, having grown up around the Darwin Sailing club and with family friends who had often thrown weekend cruise bashes in the Darwin Harbour on their catamaran. It seemed like a lucrative and intriguing job, so far away in beautiful Spain, and so after saving some pennies, we threw ourselves in the deep end and jumped on a plane to Mallorca, only our hopes and optimism as our weapons!

All things went great, and a long story short, I found work on a great boat with a fantastic crew, which lasted as both a home, a workplace, and a orphan family for two years running. But at last, something had to end. I felt the need to once again be the owner of my time. I said good bye at the end of a second season.

Since giving up the shiny, glamorous but freedom-killer job of stewardess/nanny in that yachting industry, I packed some supplies and took to the mountains in South America. One country led to another, one bus led to another, across the many faces of that exquisite continent, up across North America, and alas, back to Europe and beautiful Mallorca.... where it all started two years ago!

It´s great to be back here, and see all those people and mates again.

I am traveling now around Spain, before I either find myself a job on a boat for an Atlantic crossing, or bite the bullet and go home at last.... dreams of an Aussie christmas sing to me in my sleep....!

PHILOSOPHY

hmmmmmmmm.... this is a beauty. i think we should discuss this in person!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couch Surfing has been a life long thing for me, as my parents brought us up traveling. the only thing is, this is the first time i have made it official. Many a time i have housed people my parents may have met in crazy corners of the globe, and many times i have rocked up at the train station looking for a distant friend´s friend, who has housed my weary head! But this is the first for me on this CS2.... I hear it is great!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As described above, I have had many couches surfed, and surfed many myself, but never on this website.... I have friends who I´ve stayed with who are surfers, but I am a newie at this particular way!

Music, Movies, and Books

La Vita e bella.... Amelie..... Knocked Up... Juno..... loads and loads....
Music: from Bob Dylan to Sigur Ros to The Hives to Franz Ferdinand to Underworld. Feist, The Waifs, Powderfinger, Carla Brunei. Oh no.... this has to be in person with IPOD in tow.
books: All Isabella Allende, Barbar Kingsolver, ummm.. Roahld Dahl. Marquez. I love travel books. I love philosophy books, and I´m a sucker for psychology books.... understanding my own mind is always a good start!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Torres del Paine trek in Chile´s Patagonia. Swimming in a glacial lake. Headbutting (or being headbutted by) a shark in the Galapagos islands. Swimming with both penguins and sealions at the same time. Watching the sunset and the storms rise in the Arizona desert- the only place that beats that is my hometown Darwin, in a monsoonal wet!

Teach, Learn, Share

I recently learned how to crochet, am trying to knit and I learnt how to weave hanging baskets from a coconut frand! I was just teaching myself American sign language, but I had to leave the brick of a book in the states. So I´m a little basic on that one! I would love love love to learn how to cook anyone´s favourite dish. i will in turn, present you with world´s best carrot cake, and hummous dip recipe. Anything to do with food should be shared.
