About Me

Hi, I'm a Canadian-born science teacher living in Paris, France. In 2017 I biked across Canada, and in 2018 am hoping to do several bike trips around France and Europe. The main goal of these trips is to meet with teachers and share ideas for hands-on science activities, both to gain ideas for my own school, and to share my own activities and ideas, but most of all to act as a vector to share good ideas forward between teachers I meet along the way. That's the professional side, but on the personal side, I'm interested in meeting all people and learning about their part of the world.
Here's a link to my video blog, if you're interested in hearing more about this trip: www.youtube.com/MGCrossCanada2017
If you're interested in being hosted in Paris, please be aware that my available accommodation is less than ideal - I share a small apartment with roommates, and we are fairly tight on space, with living room or common space. If you are desperately in need of a place to stay, it could work out, and you are welcome to share what little I have, but I'm embarrassed I don't have more to offer. I'm happy to help lending a bike, tools or advice.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet new people and talk about travels, both past and future. I have fairly little experience with the couchsurfing platform, though I have hosted couchsurfers with my roommates in the past, and have often stayed with people I have met on the road, or through couchsurfing's little cycle-touring cousin, warmshowers.org.

Many of my best experiences have been with people I have met en route and shared a moment with. Sometimes having a laugh, sometimes riding together, sometimes sharing food, and sometimes being invited to spend a night indoors, often in the least expected of places. Experiences like that have inspired me to join Couchsurfing, in hopes of meeting more kind and interesting people.

Interests

I'm sure I will be contradicted, but I believe I am interested in everything, and it would be impossible to summarize everything I am interested in. Nonetheless, I will include a series of words summarizing some of my interests.

Music, Movies, and Books

At them moment I'm most interested in travel books. Here are a few of my current favourites:
Travel to the Amazon (Don Starkell)
Back in 6 Years (Tony Robinson-Smith)
My Mercedes is Not for Sale (Jeroen Van Bergeijk)
Traversa (Fran Sandham)

It's not a book, but most of the travel journals on crazyguyonabike.com are pretty good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess biking across Canada in 2017 was pretty good, though I hope my best adventures are yet to come!

Teach, Learn, Share

The main goal of my current travels is the learn, share and spread ideas for fun, hands-on science education. I try to look for what can be learned out of any situation. Please teach me something!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always up for a bike ride, a walk or a meal. If you're interested, I'd love to teach you some science, or have you or your friends share an experiment with me!
