My favorite pastime is getting weird in Big Mountains -- hiking, camping, skiing trees and powder faces, flyfishing, and adventuring -- though I can have a good time at the beach also. I love discussing politics, global affairs, philosophy, history and literature. I like to cook, and to eat even more. I like competition and I'll play or watch just about any sport (racing motorized vehicles isn't sport), and baseball holds a revered place in my heart.

I'm a big fan of Russian lit -- Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov. Also "Master and Margherita" by Bulgakov. Love Steinbeck, Philip Roth, David Mitchell ("Cloud Atlas" particularly), Robert Penn Warren, Shakespeare, Kurt Vonnegut and most of all Scott Fitzgerald. Walt Whitman is my acting spiritual guide. Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" might be the most beautiful book ever written.

The Big Lebowski, Wonder Boys, Chinatown, the Empire Strikes Back, Lawrence of Arabia, and film noir.

My musical taste stretches far and wide, but my favorites: Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead. Sergeant Pepper's and Pet Sounds. Beethoven's 9th and 7th and the Nimrod Variations by Elgar.
