About Me

CURRENT MISSION

A burning passion to re-invent myself and fill a spirit hungry for adventure!

ABOUT ME

Well shoot, I have a dry sense of humor and been accused of sporting a mischievous smirk most of the time. I fancy myself some sort of mystical troubadour...fusing my (yet unfulfilled) love of travel, music, and trying to figure out the meaning of life... I love music and I love world culture. I've been a luthier specializing in exotic world instruments for a while, I play all types of instruments, and I also produce/remix/dj electronic music. I'm also big into hot-rodding antique VW's, welding, and general metal-related mayhem.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short so make it count, laugh a lot, dance a lot, love a lot. And if you can then bring some joy and light into this world, even better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined! What an awesome web community. I've met so many interesting and wonderful people, it's really been a life changing experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Awesomeness ensues.

Interests

Music, music, and music. I love to dance, from salsa to drum'n'bass, and I love to play music too. I play all sorts of instruments from places around the world as well as building them (banjos, pandeiros, frame drums, congas made from wine barrels, all kinds of other stuff too). I also DJ and produce/remix electronic music. I'm an armchair physicist and collector of one-liner jokes. I play some capoeira, it's a unique Brazilian martial art/dance/game that fuses African, Portugues, and indigenous music, martial arts and acrobatics, and a touch of spirituality. Way cool stuff. I also do a little bit of yoga, I used to be a practicing massage therapist but since I hurt my wrist doing it I mostly teach it now. I read a whole bunch, I meditate a little, and most of the time hang out with my dog Mack (oh yeah, and I've been into rescuing Rottweilers for about 10 years now).

Music, Movies, and Books

The Essential Rumi, Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, Dub and Reggae, Hip Hop/Trip Hop, Gnawa, Banjo music from West Africa to Appalachia, Any book by Neal Stephenson, The Dark Crystal, The Matrix (just the first one....), Salsa, Drum'n'Bass, House Music

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The total lunar eclipse that happened last year on the Winter Solstice, that hasn't happened since 1638 and at that only happens maybe twice about every 2,000 years. My girlfriend (and I should say only love, too...wiggles eyebrows...) and I went onto the back deck and got under a whole bunch of blankets (freeeeezing cold it was) and watched it together. It was really magical.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach hand drumming (if it's a drum, I play it...), welding, a little Eastern Mysticism, massage therapy (Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular) and producing electronic music. I love to learn folk music songs from other cultures and sharing rhythms that I know.
