About Me

CURRENT MISSION

keep moving, connecting minds, surprising everyone

ABOUT ME

meh. I am this, I am that... usually I end up being the very thing others THINK I am. I move around quite a lot. I like to meet everyone, and try to remember names, and remember what people have told me. I am a good listener. I know how to have a good time. In short, I'm harmless.

PHILOSOPHY

um.. I don't think I have one of these. maybe. I'm into the parts of philosophy dealing with epistemology, ethics, logic, metaphysics, perception, and the philosophies of mind and language. I haven't made up my little catch phrase yet though.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I met lots of surfers at Burning mAn just after I joined, and then traveled with some... They convinced me that using the couchsurfing website isn't "cheating", but just "facilitating". I am open to meeting surfers who are traveling from anywhere to anywhere. I have surfed a handful of times, but now that I've been in one place for long enough, I have more opportunities to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed at Couchsurfing camp at Burning Man, then "unofficially" surfed with a friend of a mutual surfing friend in LA. I've met a few surfers for casual meet-ups, and by now I've hosted more than I've surfed, so... I think its time to cash in some CS karma points. I have had all good experiences with CSers. No problems at all.

Interests

I'm interested in all of the ups and downs. Some of the things I like best: live spontaneous music, travelling about, hunting and gathering, fire, smoke, food (hunting, cooking, or eating), learning new languages (oral or otherwise), the element of surprise, intellectual conversation, tumbling and balancing, chem/bio/physics or mysticism and/or the convergence of east/west holistic/mechanistic spiritualities, odd sports, chess, sustainability, organic farming and gardening, anti-globalization, the suggestion of wildly implausible scenarios (for their comedic value, mostly), costumes and silliness, things that can't be done (doing them), the prospect of an intimate encounter, various breathing techniques, octopi, and many, many others. Definitely NOT radishes.

Music, Movies, and Books

music, yes. I like some bands and groups . Big fan of tons of rock music released before 1981 or so, oldies, some indy rock from the early-mid 1990's, folk and bluegrass, blues and jazz, flamenco music. I love flamenco music. And also a lot of lyrical spoken word poetry and hip hop. Great singer/songwriters like Billy Joel, Jim Croce, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens..just to name a couple. I don't always listen, but I have respect. Live music, too. And I am loving fusion music - lately I really like jazz/flamenco fusion and flamenco/hip-hop fusions. Very interesting.

movies, yes. I like movies. very creative. Almost like time travel. sometimes more interesting than actual people in real life. That part feels fake and ugly.

books, hmm. I do like some books. Mostly non-fiction like textbooks; except for a bizarre corner of the international spy thriller genre. But seriously, I have fun reading dictionaries and other factbooks. Pictures are nice too. Right now I'm reading "The Emperor's Handbook", because a friend gave it to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Invented and patented a cure for sickle-cell anemia AND Malaria with the same genetic regulatory pathway.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to learn things, I think you will. If you meet me, I will inevitably share with you and learn from you. That's my experience.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Iceland, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Mexico, United States
