About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finish serving in the Peace Corps in April 2013

ABOUT ME

I spent my summer in Alaska working at Denali National Park as a geology intern (Geological Society of America GeoCorps program). Loved it so much that I'd like to go back and live there! For now I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer out of Otavalo, Imbabura, Ecuador. PC is an American organization that sends volunteers internationally to countries that request help in areas like water quality and availability, environmental education, HIV/AIDS awareness, etc.

PHILOSOPHY

The point of life is to experience. There's a whole world to be explored and shared! I don't want people ruling me and I don't want to rule others. Sharing food, home, and life is a beautiful thing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I got my former roomie into couchsurfing when we decided to try a new thing and surf with someone in New Hampshire. She really went with it and got bunches of people to stay with us in New Mexico. I hadn't really surfed much until a road trip in 2010 across northern North America. Meeting and staying with the locals is the way to go!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been completely humbled and impressed by the hospitality of the Americans and Canadians who hosted me on my road trip. It really shows that the world is full of good people, and plenty of strangers out there are fully willing to put everything forward to remind you you're not alone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While biking in the New Mexican desert on the way to hike up a small mountain (Strawberry Peak), I lost the trail and ended up in an arroyo. A mesquite tree blocked the way, and when I went around, I found a wallet. A day after turning it into the police, I was told I found the wallet of a man missing for ten years and that I had to show them where it had been. At the location, they found his bones and several personal effects. After ten years, not one horseback team, foot team, or overflight found him.

I got to the top of the mountain in another trip.
