Hello!

I'm currently riding across Europe with my friend, Thom, for 5 weeks, and then I'm solo for 3 weeks. We're taking a tortuous path from Stockholm to Amsterdam via Norway, and we're primarily living and camping off our bikes. My legs hurt thinking about it.

I have just wrapped up uni (for now) and I'm back on the road before work starts. I've previously studied on exchange at Virginia Tech in the US, and I travelled through the US and Europe in 2012 on a gap year - as a result my undergraduate degree did take a bit longer than expected, but it's been thoroughly worthwhile.

I read a lot because I like seeing how other people have thought and existed at other times. I like travelling because I love to see how other people think and exist now.

In my experience, when you're travelling, there's a tendency to only see the 'surface' of a country - you only get to see the tourist sites, and if you stay in hostels, you'll generally only meet foreign travellers. Those things aren't bad, by any means, but I've found that when couchsurfing I get a lot more of an understanding of the people and personality of a country. Having someone welcome you into their house and community will show you aspects of a nation that you can't pay for.

Also, as previously mentioned, I'll be living off my bike for two months. A shower and a bed would be great.

I've got a very diverse taste in music, movies and books, but a few favourite bands might be Grizzly Bear, Pinback, Sleep, Big Scary, Paul Simon, and so on and so on...

One of my favourite movies is probably Failsafe, and my all time favourite book series in the Mars series, although I'll always have a soft spot for Hearts in Atlantis. I just try to be well-read and well-listened - it's amazing who you can meet and what you can talk about if you keep your creative mind open.

Kayaking through bio-bay in Puerto Rico was amazing - the water bioluminescent, and as the light got dimmer and dimmer the water got brighter and brighter.
