About Me

CURRENT MISSION

couch surfing europe: italia, sverige, france, espana, nederlands

ABOUT ME

most people would probably say I'm a ridiculous person who is often short on words but long on sarcasm and dry humor. I may seem serious but nothing is further from the truth.

PHILOSOPHY

I would say I nominally subscribe to a utilitarian code of ethics, inasmuch as i do not consume meat and attempt to consider the interests of all organisms and people equally, and generally attempt to see circumstances from the perspective of the world's poorest people.

my politics are anarchist inspired in that i am critical of both state and capitalist institutions, however, i feel this is impractical in the current state of affairs, so i tend to pragmatically support Green parties and strongly desire to see direct democracy implemented.

Recently I've become interested in Buddhism as well as Gandhi's ideas for a long time.

somehow all these mesh together...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i cant offer couch space because i currently live with my parents near boston, and they are a bit close-minded, i apologize for lack of reciprocation if you help me out. Presumably I'm moving to Iowa in the fall.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

only one experience in California which was very positive

Interests

I'm beginning grad school in sustainable agriculture/agroecology in the fall, with main interests in environment-poverty linkages and sustainable development in the Third World, esp. Africa and India. Interests connected with this include ecology of farming and food systems, agronomy, natural resource management, geography and population growth.

i'm a vegetarian.

Meditation practice has recently become a major, if not dominant, part of my life. I find the Shambhala lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche particularly truthful.

Music, Movies, and Books

listen to classic rock exclusively at one point, as well as 1990s alternative rock (foofighters, incubus, etc); now experimenting with African (mostly Nigerian music, i.e. Fela Kuti, Sunny Ade, etc)
