About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find the tender shoots of the new world bursting through the crust of the old and to assist them and take inspiration from them.

ABOUT ME

I'm a communard living on a commune in Washington, DC, USA. We are very welcoming to travelers and are happy to trade room and board for help around the house. Check us out at frompointa.org/dc/.

I'm vegan. That seems important if we're going to share meals.

I'm a broadly curious, politically and scientifically literate anarchist. I've been living in egalitarian income sharing consensus based communes since 2005 learning how to actually run a democratic classless society. It's quite fascinating and I love talking about it and mulling over the ideas, the implications, and the applications with others.

I'm frequently told that I am charming, funny, and kind. I hope that you think so too.

PHILOSOPHY

Anarchism-Agnosticism-Utilitarianism-Psychedelia-Taoism/Buddhism (or the kernel that migrated to the West, anyway).

I believe that in almost all cases there is a common ground of wants and needs around which humans can cooperate. I believe that our primary challenges as a species and as civilizations is not technical but rather social. Problems with distribution and cooperation. There are widespread failures of imagination and compassion and a bunch of truly dangerous narratives running too many parts of the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have not couch surfed via Couchsurfing prior to 2014 but have been couchsurfing with friends and acquaintances since my college days when I was a well integrated "guy on the couch" for two years. I am a willing dishwasher, a low impact sleeper, a versatile cook (but no chef), a handy fixer, and a pleasant conversationalist.

Interests

Economics, renewable energy, industrial efficiency, space colonization, building the new world in the shell of the old (anarcho-syndicalism), cooperation, consensus, thought provoking movies and art, electronic dance music, dancing, architecture.

Music, Movies, and Books

Robert Anton Wilson's "The Illuminatus! Trilogy" imprinted itself on my psyche at a young age. Ursula K. Leguin, Patricia McKillip, Ray Bradbury.

Most movies by Terry Gilliam.

Music I can dance to. Also Animal Collective and The Books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to Burning Man four times, a place of near unlimited novelty. I've lived at an egalitarian income sharing commune for most of my adult life. I built a 6000 square foot eco-groovy mixed use building.

Teach, Learn, Share

Intermediate home repair (carpentry, plumbing, electrical). Consensus facilitation. Communal living. Basic economics. Basic project and business planning. Intermediate gardening.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In
