About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Visiting new cities, and welcoming strangers to ours.

ABOUT ME

I've lived in Rochester since 1978 with my husband, Steve. We're both photographers, and have managed to keep ourselves, our kids, and a bunch of dogs fed, housed, and clothed with the help of our cameras. We have a couple of daughters who are living in Boston, as well as a brand new granddaughter. Her mom, our older daughter works for Boston lawyers by day and performs with a burlesque troop by night. We're vegetarian, Buddhist, leftist types. Our friends will tell you we are easy going, kinda funny, good storytellers, good hearted, and community oriented. Steve is also a singer/songwriter and has been performing with friends and professionally since the mid sixties.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have never been a surfer who surfed on YOUR couch, but my husband and I have welcomed a number of visitors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our very first couch surfers became very close friends. A mom and daughter from the Nashville area stayed with us for 6 days while the daughter was checking out an academic program here. Several months later, the daughter ended up coming to live with us for around 6 weeks, eventually moving to Rochester so she could go to school, then meeting the man who she married. They now live outside of Nashville, we photographed the wedding, and our families have continued to do good things for each other. Other visitors: a mom and daughter from Australia, and a writer who was traveling across the country to start a new teaching job. They were great visitors, too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the fall of 2011, I arrested with 15 other activists in an Occupy Rochester protest. I spent the night in a cell with 5 other strong women, and while waiting in a holding cell to be arraigned the next morning, we shared stories with women who were not going to walk away as simply as we were. It was brief, but eye opening.

I have photographed many births! My photography has allowed me access to places and people that I would not have access to otherwise. Politicians, actors, etc. But also the homeless, births, and of course my daughter's burlesque buddies.
