About Me
I am trying to make my life a work of art. Keep reading for more details.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing allows for the flexibility in life that I crave and the courage to walk into the unknown trusting that everything will be alright. I adore meeting new people and making connections all over the world in the hope that I can someday return the favor. I think there is also something really beautiful about meeting people under the circumstances of graciousness.
Interests
Performing Arts (Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre, Comedy etc.) I've trained in classical ballet for 10 years, modern dance for 8 years, and have trained in tango, hip hop, jazz, most recently have become infatuated with aerial dance because of the dance company Bandaloop --> www.bandaloop.org. I am currently a creative studies dance major at the University of Washington.
Nothing beats making people laugh. Someday I am going to be a cast member on SNL and eventually I want to bring the variety show back (think Carol Burnett). Currently love making impromptu comedy shorts with my friends and writing sketches.
Visual Arts (I have an affinity for anatomical drawings ala Gray's Anatomy and find drawing hands a fascinating creative practice and brings me great joy and love giving drawings as gifts!)
Writing!
Very passionate about cooking and dancing in the kitchen while cooking! I love preparing meals for others and sharing memories over the table.
If I ever feel lost, I return to the ocean for comfort and calm. I grew up spending most of my time outside at my grandparent's water front home... swimming, jet skiing, kayaking to islands within the bay, and occasionally getting stung by jelly fish. The water is my sanctuary. I'm a pisces through and through. :)
I am extremely restless when it comes to routine, thus my love for travel and exploration. I began traveling by myself at the age of 13 and haven't stopped since. I love airports nearly as much as I love the ocean. It simply feels right to me to be in a state of transit and motion.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am currently in love with the music of Mexican folk singer, Chavela Vargas. I recently choreographed a dance piece using her song La Llorona and it is overwhelmingly sorrowful and beautiful in its drama. To me, music is like comfort food. It is nostalgic and nourishing all at once. Turn on Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and I'm in bliss. My go to karaoke songs are Ave Maria and What's New Pussy Cat.
Favorite movies include The Hours, Bridesmaids, James Bond Series, and the Oceans Trilogy. It's not a movie, but Saturday Night Live is my everything.
Anything written by Ian McEwan I am a fan of. I am intrigued by his use of multiple perspectives to illuminate how unfortunate futures are created by acting from limited intelligence. I have a trunk devoted to Harry Potter. Currently I am curating a dance library and am hoping to expand it exponentially over the years. And last but not least, the genius of Calvin and Hobbes.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Turned an entire room, floor, ceiling, walls, into a massive twister board and filmed four dancers inside this room to look like they were hanging upside down for a short dance film I created entitled, The Mating Game. You can check out the result here:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O0K0g4ArfU
Teach, Learn, Share
I know how to teach dance (just completed a course on teaching dance at the University of Washington) and love sharing this art form. If we ever meet, just say the word and I will have you impressing your friends with arabesques and tango steps before you know it:) Self-taught yogi and happy to share tips!
I am just beginning to learn Italian (makes sense since I will be living there for three months beginning in April 2015) and want to round out my French language education at some point soon. I'd love to learn how to sing opera! While in Italy I will be studying the spiritual origins of ballet during the Renaissance period. I am also working on a series of monologues while I am in Italy and will be turning it into a one-woman show when I return home to Seattle in the fall of 2015. The monologues will be based off of observations I make of people while I am in Italy. Ultimately I am most interested in learning about other people. I love hearing about the lives of others, what makes them laugh, their stories, philosophies on life etc. Observing how people move, sound, interact is fascinating to me.
I love sharing recipes, jokes, card tricks, dinners, and above all, experiences. I'm completely game for adventure and the unpredictable. That's really what makes life worth living anyways.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I live by the idea that no matter where you go, there you are. Where ever I am you will find an open and compassionate heart, delicious meals, and laughter. I also am a highly skilled house cleaner and house/pet sitter (I've been running my own business for over 2 years now). So you know I will leave your home in better condition than when I arrived:) It's the least I can do to say thank you for hosting me.
As I mentioned above, I love drawing and would be more than happy to leave you with a piece of artwork! I'd also love to exchange languages if interested.
