About Me

Hailing from the west coast of Canada, I'm a laid back, friendly and fun guy who's always open to new experiences.
I'm a movies/tv/music/history/politics/trivia junkie, who loves good food, exploring cities on foot, outdoor adventures, meeting new people, and swapping stories over beer.

As a guest, I'm respectful and responsible. And as a traveler, my style is to start with loose plans but not follow a strict itinerary. I'll try (almost!) anything at least once.

New to hosting and looking forward to giving back to the community.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I never want to be just a tourist. I want to experience new places, meet new friends, and make meaningful connections wherever I travel. And there's no better way of doing that than meeting up or staying with some like-minded locals!

I'm enthusiastic about where I choose to live and want to help others to experience this city the best I can.

Interests

I'm endlessly curious, and I want to know everything about everything. I'm working on it...

Music, Movies, and Books

Too much great music, and not enough time to listen to it all! I love sharing music and discovering new artists. I'll always have a soft spot for classic rock, as I grew up on it. But my tastes are pretty eclectic. Folk, motown/soul, jazz, new wave, hip hop, "international", glam rock, funk/r&B, and I have a shameless weakness for pop music. I'll even tolerate some country music from time to time.
Some favourites include Pulp, Paul Simon, David Bowie, The Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Otis Redding, ELO, Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder, The Cars, The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Velvet Underground, Arctic Monkeys, Dire Straits, Vampire Weekend.

Movies: Lord of the Rings, The Last Waltz, The Hunt, The Lives of Others, Midnight in Paris, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Lion King, Fargo. Also been known to marathon 80's action flicks and James Bond.

TV: Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Veep, The Thick of It, Peep Show, Broad City, Sherlock, House of Cards, Game of Thrones.

I tend to read mostly non-fiction (either political commentary or books about the state of the world and the future). But some other recent favourites have included anything by David Sedaris, "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" by David Foster Wallace, "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole, Christopher Hitchens, Erik Larson. I'm trying to read more classics, mostly because I feel I should. Currently working my way through some Orwell and Hemingway.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled around the world non-stop for the entirety of 2016.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure that I'm "qualified" to teach anything. But that's never stopped me from trying.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Ideally I'd like to make some new friends who'll always have a place to stay if they find themselves traveling in my neck of the woods!

I will share anything I can with hosts. I hope we can share some good conversation, interesting stories, and good laughs. I think it is important to respect and appreciate anyone who is generous enough to host you. Whether it be helping around the house, doing the dishes, helping someone practice English, or sharing a meal.
