About Me

CURRENT MISSION
I still feel new to Toronto still after almost three years. I'm getting used to my new home and occasionally taking trips around North America.

ABOUT ME

I am a musician and writer from Vancouver and area. I play some acoustic roots / folk / singer-songwriter music as well as electric reggae-rock / ska. I have lived and travelled all over Western Canada; I have lots of stories to tell and connections there. I moved to Toronto four years ago and have been developing an appreciation of the food, music and aesthetics there. Over the last couple years though, I have spent lots of time traveling around North America while Toronto is still my home base.

PHILOSOPHY

If everyone could actualise their potential the world would be a better place. I am a firm supporter of free speech, and like to engage in civil discussion. I think that the truth will come to the surface when ideas are debated on a level playing field. Philosophy is one of my favourite subjects, so I could talk for a while on it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really like to cook and have no problem washing dishes and such. I can also teach guitar and music theory and give writing advice. I'm a decent conversationalist and have many stories about my travels. I'm also a bit of a food and health nut, and, if you want, I could give you some life changing advice.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had great experiences through Couchsurfing and I think it's one of the best websites in the world. I've met great people around North America through Couchsurfing.

Interests

Music, writing (mainly creative non-fiction), food and health as well as history and current events.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like the relatively unknown Canadian songwriters I've come across. Some examples: Raghu Lokanathan, Scott Dunbar and Steph Macpherson. I'm also quite eclectic in my musical tastes, so listen to some of the following genres and more: hip hop, rock, reggae, ska, folk, blues, jazz and classical.
As for movies, I mainly like foreign and independent films, though I appreciate classic Hollywood and want to learn more about it.
Books... hmm, I deliberately avoid book stores because I know I'll be tempted to spend all sorts of money there. Lately I've been really appreciating Julia Ross. I'm a fan of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and Jack Kerouac. I like memoirs, all sorts of non-fiction information and short fiction. If I get old I'll read as many of the classics as possible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw wild bison on my way up to the Yukon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach guitar, music theory, give health and nutrition advice, help with creative writing, fly tying, fly casting and fly fishing. Though I'm no expert, I'm keen to share what I know about cooking and gardening too.
I know a lot of varied tidbits of knowledge about lots of things, so if you're curious, just ask.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Labour, skills, conversation, music, food.
