About Me

Hello, I'm Graham. I am currently a PhD student in comparative literature at the University of Michigan. I'm working on my dissertation and living in Amman with my fiancée, who is studying Arabic here.

I'm coming back to Couchsurfing after being away for a long time, and now that I'm back I'm hoping to use it meet some friends here in Jordan.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I learned about Couchsurfing through my former roommate Amber.

We hosted a great deal of people at our house, and all of our experiences were positive. I've surfed across the Northern US, Northeast Canada, Alaska, Spain, Mexico, and Greece. I've used CS to meet amazing people in other places as well.

Interests

I can be pretty introverted at times, but get me talking about any of these topics and I'll likely talk your ear off.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movie:
Stand By Me
Tied for second place: too many to list.

Music:
Lots of instrumental/electronic stuff these days, as a soundtrack for reading endless grad school assignments. I also like indie music, but does that even mean anything anymore? I can sing my throat hoarse to some pop tunes on a road trip. Also been digging Arabic music of all kinds for the past several years. It's difficult to think of a type of music that I don't like.

Books:

I've read a lot of them, and there are so many more to read. I'm still feeling euphoric from reading The Grapes of Wrath a few years ago. Currently making my way through some classics of modern Arabic literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drove from Michigan to Alaska and back with my best friend.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to teach English to Intermediate English-language students.

I would love to practice Arabic / Spanish / Persian with anyone willing to help.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The first things that come to mind are food, drink and conversation

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bahamas, Canada, England, Germany, Lebanon, Malta, Mexico, Peru, Scotland, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Greece, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, United States
