About Me
I'm 35 years old, gay, and a professor at the University of North Dakota. I have a formal CV for academic audiences but I didn't think that would be very important to a couch surfing audience. When I looked at it to determine what kinds of things I might tell the couch surfing world about myself... I guess the most interesting are that I often work with American Indian tribes and so have some cool stories.
I still watch movies on DVD (I have a TV but no Netflix or cable) and I read a lot of books. I like to cook, but because I live alone I only do so a couple times a week. (I get tired of eating left overs). Guests are welcome!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet new friends and to discover new places. I love traveling and meeting new people. I completed a Fulbright in Lithuania and from that experience learned how amazing complete strangers can be and how quickly those strangers can become friends. I'm happy to open my home to couch-surfers and meet new friends.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I like lyrics - everything from Aesop Rock to Shane Koyczan. I grew up in the 90s so there is a lot of Matchbox 20, Third Eye Blind, Dave Matthews Band, Goo Goo Dolls etc. I am not too focused on the genre as much as I am on lyrics that can tell a story.
Movies: Anything but horror, probably heavily weighted on the kinds of dramas that the Academy loves but regular people don't go see. Things like Lars and the Real Girl, Crash, or the Shipping News are amazing.
Books: Way too many to list. Come see my library :D
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was working for the Havasupai Indian Tribe in Arizona I got to take the helicopter from the rim of the Grand Canyon all the way down to the canyon floor. The tribe doesn't have roads that go down to the main city and so everything is either taken by helicopter or by mule down a narrow road into the Canyon. That was a great experience.
