About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Share the wonder of life and travel.

ABOUT ME

My wife, Pat, and I are long time vegetarians who grow most of our own food and are developing a life style which will be comfortable without a dependence on oil. I've been involved in the energy conservation business for 26 years and Pat is a veterinarian.

PHILOSOPHY

Fuck'em if they can't take a joke!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We live high on a hill overlooking the beautiful Lewis River Valley in Washingston State just a short distance from Portland Oregon and are open to having travelers (especially from other countries) crash with us. We've had wonderful experiences in peoples homes in our own travels and would like to do the same for others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Michael Moore movies, and anything progressive! Also a must read book is Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine, The Rise of Disaster Capitalism." As a lifetime student of economics this is the best, most readable, book on the subject I've read since college so many years ago! A must read for those who want to see the world as it really is not how you believe it is. It's a best seller and a real eye opener.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

After graduating from college in economics (1966) and working in the capitalist world for 3 years I decided to drop out and go to Europe for the summer which turned into a four year trip ending in the last six months hitching all around India. I surfed on many couches and floors around the world way before we had a name for it. Needless to say I've never been the same since. It was the best thing I've ever done other that returning to India a few years later when I was 30 for 6 months working on our own aid project for a village. On that trip we self adopted an six month orphan girl and brought her back to the USA. By doing it ourself we spent $125 not the $5000 to $10,000 it would have cost through "normal channels". She is now a happy US citizen with two college degrees also trying to fine her way in life as we all must do sooner or later.
