About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting to know the world, the environment, other people and, I suppose, myself.

ABOUT ME

I'm a student in International Studies from Toronto, Canada. Right now I'm specifically interested in international environmental issues (and yet I justify air travel when it comes to me). I love creativity - I once made an entire theory about why architecture, fashion/interior/industrial design, visual art, film, and literature are some of the most important areas to be involved in right now. I'm probably more classifiable as a critic rather than artist, but I'm also pretty sensitive so it's rare that I absolutely hate something. I love traveling - that feeling of seeing something completely new and immersing yourself in it. I hate conflict, but I'm dealing with the fact that sometimes it just has to happen. I don't easily lose my cool and I can usually try to understand from where most people are coming - it's more interesting that way and avoids unnecessary judgments. Politically I'm afraid to say that I'm rather uninformed and therefore un-opinionated. I sometimes get really disappointed with how governments and people treat each other, I have a lot of hope though.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, for the moment I won't be able to host people in Lyon - but I could provide some info/ask around. I'm looking forward to sharing my couch to travelers when I get back to Toronto this summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As of now, I have absolutely no personal CouchSurfing experience, although a number of my friends have been raving about it for years.

Interests

- spending hours making large batches of soups and sauces and freezing them in individual portions
- painting or drawing (usually during times of unexplainable happiness or sadness)
- listening to music - almost all the time, and almost everything, although I still haven't been able to appreciate hardcore, believe me, I've really tried
- reading articles about the environment, globalization, latest fashion trends
- discussing with friends: philosophy, spirituality, the latest funny thing that happened to us on the subway, traveling, life in the city
- dreaming about future lives that I might have someday
- enjoying nature
- snowboarding

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies, and my favourites are shared by so many people that it almost seems pointless to write them down. However, here are some that come to mind:
The Hours, Magnolia, Clueless, Requiem for a Dream, Shortbus, Stardust, Fightclub, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Before Sunset, Moulin Rouge, The Constant Gardener, C.R.A.Z.Y., Tarnation, Mean Girls, Donnie Darko, Wet Hot American Summer

MUSIC:
There is so little music that I detest, that it's almost not worth writing this list either. Some classic favourites:
The Smiths, Polyphonic Spree, Aimee Mann, MGMT, Yeasayer, The Cure, Arcade Fire, Shad, Badly Drawn Boy, Sufjan Stevens, Nouvelle Vague, David Bowie, Elliot Smith, Fiona Apple, Jose Gonzales, A Tribe Called Quest, Mates of State, Kings of Convenience, My Bloody Valentine, Neil Young, Nina Simone, - gosh it's not worth it, there are too many I love

BOOKS:
I used to be what teacher's called a "reader", but I'm finding it more and more difficult to convinced myself to actually finish anything, even though I like most of the ones I do end up reading. Favourites: The Depford Trilogy, Lullabies for Little Criminals, Bridget Jones' Diary, Into the Wild, The End of the Wild, The Zahir, Mrs. Dalloway, On the Road

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a certified snowboard instructor and I was the Craft's Director at a kids summer camp... I insisted on calling it Art Director.
