Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Having as many great experiences as I can in South America

ABOUT ME

*** NOTE: Guildford is about 35 mins out from London on the train and £20+ return ticket. Please consider this when looking for a couch :) ***

I've been working for a few years now and after taking lots of great but far too short holidays I'm taking 6 months off to explore the South American continent. I'm looking to get even more out of an already fantastic experience by hooking up with great people along the way, be it for a coffee or a couch.

So you don't know me - what would my friends say about me?

They'd say I was a great listener, find someone I get on with and I soak it all up and really enjoy getting to know you. They'd probably say I think I talk too much about the things I like, but that I much prefer talking about common interests and exploring the many random tangents that come up in conversation.

They'd say I appear quiet and confident, but once you get to know me I'm quite kooky. That I take bizarre angles on the most innocuous subjects and ask the funniest questions.

They'd say that you can't keep me from trying to climb every mountain and trying as many different gravity defying sports as possible.

They'd probably say I use too many convoluted words and sentences. For that struggling English speakers I apologise.

PHILOSOPHY

Life should be embraced as a journey, one that you don't live with regrets but at each stage look to make the most of. Not a philosophy I always adhere to, but I do try!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm travelling South America, so I'm looking for locals who will enjoy sharing their culture and country with me. I hope to give back as much as I can in return by being a lovely guest.

I also vow to repay my hosting debts once I return to England :)

Interessi

I love to get out there and enjoy the beauty of the world, both in nature and the amazing people that exist out there. I have tried or practiced more outdoor sports than I have time for, but now focus the time I have in the outdoors on mountain biking, kitesurfing and trekking. I've had countless great experiences and am always hungry for more.

When I'm in the city I love getting to know a place on foot, which usually means long mornings or afternoons seeing the sites interspersed with relaxed trips to cafes. In the evening you can't beat a night out in a decent bar or gig with a like-minded bunch of people. As an evening progresses you'll have a job keeping me off the dance floor. You'll be keeping me company, right?

I have pretty much no ability in the arts, but I love meeting people that do and experiencing their passions, be it singing, dancing, acting or something equally intriguing for me.

Musica, film e libri

The list of artists on my iPod is too random and varied to give you a feel for my tastes - there aren't really any genres of music I don't like outright. My iPod has a bias towards indie/alternative and a fair bit of electronica, but equally there's dance, pop, classical and more on there.

I'm not a big reader, but that's not something I'm proud of. Bring me your book recommendations!

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I've been lucky enough to visit bits of most of the world's continents, though there is still a lot more to explore. I don't think there's much that can impress the modern intrepid traveller, but a handful of my highlights include:

Ascending a snow covered volcano in Chile, then sliding back down it with only an ice axes to slow the descent
Kitesurfing on Tiree, a beautiful remote Scottish Island
Staying a few nights in a Chinese monastery and being woken by chanting monks before sunrise
Canyoning in New Zealand, taking in huge waterfalls and massive free jumps
Rafting huge water flows on the Coruh river in remote eastern Turkey

I can teach...

Want to improve your English or French? I'm no teacher, but I'm always immensely grateful to be able to help you practice (thereby avoiding speaking your native language that I'm no doubt appalling at).

I don't shout about this one, but there is an inner geek in me, so if you have any techie problems I usually can't help but try and fix 'em.

And I'm always happy to share any advice that might be useful on travelling or outdoor sports.

I want to learn...

Having said I'm no doubt bad at your native language, I don't want things to stay that way. After we've (hopefully) had that entertaining and stimulating conversation in English or French, we can have a go at improving my very basic language skills (at the moment that's Spanish!)
