About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be the best grandparents we can be. To meet and enjoy the people of the world.

ABOUT ME

Greg- I still love my work after more than 40 years in the classroom. My students ages range from 18 to 80. Some are recent high-school grads, some are vets returning from war, many are moms, some are very poor and some are upper-class matrons. I enjoy them all.
Corlies - Is a 25 year member of the Eugene Concert Choir. Is the best friend to each of our five daughters.
She is also "best friend"to an astonishing number of women. She likes quilts and cooking and almost everything that is positive and enriching. For 25 years Cor was the American mom to college girls from Japan, Mexico, Taiwan and Indonesia. Most girls lived with us for a year but two lived with us for three - four years. Corlies loved and mothered them all and they all became a part of our family.

PHILOSOPHY

Greg is traditional and conservative and Christian. He loves people of all philosophies and faiths.
Corlies was raised Quaker. She is a pacifist and very liberal. She loves people of all philosophies including her crusty and very lucky old husband.

Music, Movies, and Books

Greg - Patrick Obrien tales of the sea. Biographies and histories. Historical fiction. Regency and Victorian lit.
Movies- everything except Horror and mean-spirited films.
Corlies reads books about people and relationships, novels recommended by friends and the Friends Journal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Greg- Climbed Mt Fuji, took the Trans-Siberian at the height of the Cold War, banged around Argentina by bus at age 69, traveled around the world without using airplanes, went up in an airplane for the first time at age 17 and landed in an airplane for the first time at age 19. Was once and briefly a multi-millionaire but the reality of paying several hundred thousand in that currency for a beer knocked some of the shine off being "wealthy".
Corlies - traveled by hippie schoolbus across America at 19 working temp jobs.

Teach, Learn, Share

Greg - We raised 6 kids on one teacher's salary. I can share recipes for large batches of inexpensive but delicious dinners to put in the freezer.
Corlies is a world class homemaker. She is a great resource in questions of personal and family relationships.
