About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to help you check your fear of Los Angeles

ABOUT ME

I used to play music in various bands; we traveled around the states. Currently, I am involved in designing spaces and furniture to go in those spaces.

I'm not what I would call a partying person - I don't drink much - but I consider throwing a good party an art form. I really enjoy gathering people together who may not know each other and seeing them get to know one another.

I have a keen interest in other cultures, their languages, their architecture, their food, and their sense of humor.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life to learn, remember and love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

ATTENTION: If you read no other part of my profile, please read this!!!!

If you visit me Monday-Thursday, you will probably not see a lot of me! I work days, and go to school at night. Often I am a "bare-bones" host: I give you privacy, a clean bed, a place to shower, and talk with you a bit about Los Angeles. And that's it! This is what I would expect and want from a host in another city. If Couchsurfing for you means something different, that's great. But please don't let your expectations lead to disappointment.

Having said that - I host because I do want to share good times with fun, friendly people who are bon vivants, who like to cook, who like to eat adventurous foods, who like architecture, who like language, who like to tell stories of their travels. I have many interests, so I would hope that we could discover some kind of shared passion for something? I host because, work schedule permitting, I want to hang out with my guests for at least an evening or so at my house, or perhaps somewhere in the city.

I do not host because I have a karma-driven urge to provide free lodging.

Anyways, now I sound like a grump. I'm certainly not! I just want to be straightforwards as possible as to why I'm doing this. And then hopefully, we can avoid a lot of misunderstanding. (And don't panic if you really don't like sushi!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to couchsurf all over the US when I was in a band. Recently, I stayed at many places in Germany. All the hosts were very kind. So far this summer (2010) I have hosted 11 times. Most experiences have been great, some have been missed opportunities. But beyond all the (cultural?) differences, micro-calamities, communication breakdowns , etc. I must say that I really, really appreciate it when a surfer shows their appreciation for my efforts with a reference. :)) To you the reference might not be a big deal, but to me, it is that little extra after-the-fact gesture that says the stay had some kind of personal value. A big thank you to those who have left references already!!!!

Interests

I am interested in art, architecture, black and white films, Japan, Italy, Cuba, woodworking, welding, urban planning...

I really am not interested in discussing politics, at least not at the blunt, macro level.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love film noir. I also love Japanese, Italian and French cinema from the 50's and 60's. I like Philip K. Dick, J.G. Ballard, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're going to try TIG welding, and have eyes like me (sensitive blue), I recommend going with the #12 shade, preferably gold-plated, and a 2x diopter.
