About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a PhD student at the Indiana School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering where I research social bots, data brokers, and social analytics: basically all of the most terrifying things that the 21st century has to offer.
I'm an experienced world traveler who has seen a lot and so is very tolerant of everyone's cultural/personal preferences.

PHILOSOPHY

Never stop asking questions: questions about yourself, questions about the world, always keep asking and always know your own assumptions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can see that it's something of a cliche, but I am indeed looking forward to meeting interesting people from around the world.
When I lived in Tulsa I had space to have other stay at my place, but alas these days I'm on a PhD student's budget and don't have the extra living space at the moment--but one day I will again.

Interests

I'm interested in just about everything, from philosophy, science, politics, literature, and a whole host of nerdy things.

  • writing
  • books
  • literature
  • politics
  • communications
  • science

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide variety of music: classic rock to neo-classical. There's something I love in every genre.
I'm a major fan of speculative fiction especially Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Interviewing leading executives, government officials, and researchers around the world for my book about the promising and/or horrifying developing technologies using the data that is passively collected about us constantly (through phone geolocation, social media, credit purchases, and a thousand other sources,) and how it might be applied in the future for social control to either create a wondrous utopia where society's ailments have been diagnosed and cured...or an inescapable totalitarian nightmare.
Fun stuff!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Innate curiosity about everything.
Interesting conversation.
