About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to feel and foster deep connections with the world and its inhabitants

ABOUT ME

I'm 29 (update: I'm now 34) and male (Update: still a man). Will be going to NY in the fall to start a phd program in sociology at CUNY (update: this shit is taking forever lol). Before that I'd like to do some woofing in Mexico (that was fun) and perhaps a bit of couch surfing. For the most part I try to live life as freely as possible. Kind of like Clooney in Up in the Air where he has his whole life in a backpack, but not the part where he gets super depressed after his love interest turns out to be a faker. I guess that makes me an overage kid. I seek out anything that can challenge my perspectives on life.

I'm now doing a writing a dissertation on dating apps and am always on the lookout for good people to interview.

UPHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is in a constant state of flux. My all time favorite quote is by Whitman: "do I contradict myself? very well, then, I contradict myself; I am large I contain multitudes." Right now my main goal in life is to broaden my perspectives. To seek out experiences I've never had before and personalities I haven't had the chance to meet. I feel like my life is too short to get stuck in any kind of rut or routine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once I get settled in NY I hope to host massive amounts of people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have participated in language exchanges via couchsurfing. They were great experiences and the people that go to cs meetings are always open and friendly.

Interests

Epistemology, beer, dancing

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like Stanley Kubric (space odyssey 2001, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Bad Lutenent: New Orleans Port of Call, Stroszek, Fitzcarraldo), The Phantom of Liberty, the Coen brothers (A Serious Man, No country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, Barton Fink, The Big Labowski), Symbiopsychotaxiplasm, and Frownland.

Arcade Fire, Van Morrison, The Magnetic Fields

I like popular science books like Freak-o-nomics and Blink. Some classics are good: Ulysses, Catcher in the Rye, and A Clockwork Orange, for instance. Once in a while I indulge in a bit of Shakespeare or poetry, hence the Whitman quote earlier.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is lame I know, but I'm pretty proud of the fact that I get to teach study sociology for a living.

Teach, Learn, Share

guitar, badminton, longboarding, snowboarding, chess, all the good stuff

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a tiny apartment, so one or two nights is really all I can manage right now in terms of time. I also don't typically plan more than a day or two in advance (sorry)

Countries I’ve Visited

England, Laos, South Korea, Thailand, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
