About Me

About me assumes knowledge of me. But to discover who I am or what the self is? This is a task worthy of life itself. Maybe in time I will never know who I am because maybe there is no I am. Maybe there just is what is. And maybe that cant be known. Who knows? I dont know. I dont know much.

I like to make music: https://soundcloud.com/gregorytheasshole

I also like to explore who I am. There is no end to such an endeavour. Only a process. A process I am in. Strength comes from the ability to maintain the process through life. Never to end it, only to pursue it. It is yet to be seen if I have this strength

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it is literally frightening how many people there are in the world and how few of them I will meet. People who are travelling are people who are exploring the world, this is inspiring - and if I can help them on that journey, as others have helped me on mine, then I will have done life itself a service.

Music, Movies, and Books

In books, I mainly read Philosophy; Heidegger, Nietzsche, Derrida etc. I like surrealist films, such as the work of David Lynch or Charlie Kauffman, or, for both music and movies, the works of Omar Rodriguez Lopez. Any music that Omar Rodriguez Lopez or John Frusciante are involved in I am bound to like. John Frusciante is my favourite person of all people. There is no bad genre, only bad music. Some of the other music I like; James Blake, Tool, The Mars Volta, El-P, Fela Kuti, Animal Collective, Aphex Twin. I generally look out for people who are hard to put into a genre. who are doing something new. who are genuinely creating and not just reproducing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I really feel that the simple and consitent things we do are the best things we can do; dedicating myself to music and philosophy - or more broadly creativity - is a lifestyle I try to inhabit. Being lucky enough to discover that creativity is the fundamental law of the universe is one amazing thing that I have done.

Teach, Learn, Share

At the moment I am learning how to produce music. Artists like James Blake and the latest John Frusciante releases are teaching me the wonders of producing a truly unique and personal sound in music, which is something I seek. If you want to make music, this is something we can share. If you want to be creative with me in any way, you can paint while I write music, this is something we can share. If you want to simply discuss an idea, this is something that we can share. and maybe then, we can create new ideas together. How wonderful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Occasionally I can host. I have a small couch and a foam mattress which can be used, however it is not always available. Contact me and I can let you know. I cannot guarantee major comfort - and I cannot guarantee major time on my part - but I can guarantee a warm welcome and good will.
