About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to do more good than harm in the world as I navigate through life

ABOUT ME
Despite the numbers on my profile, I've actually hosted quite a few more surfers... They were just mostly under my previous partner's profile.

I am a Deaf woman with an attitude who loves adventures and eclectic furniture. I read voraciously, would much rather play solitaire than video games, and love animals. I found home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, but I'm not ready to move yet. I can be girly at times but am thrilled to change the oil in my car. I'm a conundrum, just like most people.

PHILOSOPHY
Personal belief number one: Every human action is motivated by selfishness.
Personal belief number two: this shouldn't prevent people from doing good things in the world.
Personal belief number three: I am a misanthropic humanist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love meeting new people, and those times when I've crashed at the homes of people I barely knew have been some of the neatest of my life. Sometimes they've been little moments of salvation in the midst of insanity.

The people who have stayed with me have likewise been a lovely revelation! I think I've personally hosted people from... Five countries? Six? I lose track. 😊 Wait, no, it's more like ten now!

Interests

reading, office supplies, community building, ASL, running water and trees.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Yes.

Movies: I thought Pineapple Express was a waste of two hours of my life. Other than that, I like a pretty wide variety of movies. I rarely sit down to watch them, either in the theater or at home... There's always something else to do!

Music: depends on whether I can hear it clearly enough to appreciate it... But I love a wide variety of music! The only types I don't like are those that I can't hear clearly - usually things like heavy rock, metal, and rap are too "wall of sound" or fast for me to follow along. But I've been known to just ignore that there are lyrics and dance to the beat of whatever it is.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I founded a non-profit organization focused on advocacy for Deaf survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach anyone to make fresh french bread in an hour and a half (from beginning the process to eating the bread). No bread machine users need apply.

I am a whiz at parallel parking, and am happy to pass on my secrets. I've successfully taught about a dozen people how to do it!

I can teach you the American Sign Language alphabet in about twenty minutes (or more if your brain isn't linguistically inclined).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very conscious of being a good guest (whether surfing or just in general) so I will absolutely clean up after myself and anyone else, help with housework if asked, and cook a meal if I'm given guidelines.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, France, Germany
