About Me

JUNE 2016 - JULY 2017

I am currently travelling with my girlfriend Lena (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/leyna) since June, 1st 2016. First stop : Martinique (in the french caribbeans), then Guadeloupe, San Marteen, USA, Canada, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon (french territory in North America), Iceland, then back to France in June 2017.

We have a journalistic project/investigation going on about justice in the french overseas, and we want to travel through the US for the presidential elections, in order to write some portraits, stories, etc. We'll be in the US from August to October, and we'll be living in Canada from November to May 2017.

ABOUT ME

I'm travelling for a living - spending 80 % of my profesionnal time as a journalist and 20 % as a professional blogger (http://www.blogduvoyage.fr). However, 80 % of my incomes come from my travel blog, and 20 % from journalism ...

Solitary yet cheerful, passionate and Jack-of-all-trades. Know how to cook at least one recipe from each country in this world - and have extensive knowledge about teas. Brutally honest / direct / frank - you'll never have me do something I don't want / I don't like. Enjoy outdoors, trails, sports, quiet talks with 2/3/4 people, dancing under the rain. Hate partying, and loathe anything related to crowds. To be alone doesn't really matter to me, but I can't stand feeling lonely. Love soap-bubbles, hate chicories, can eat everything else. Love cooking and try to cook local dishes - yeah, I'm very passionate about feeding people.

TOPICS I COULD DISCUSS ENDLESSLY

Toilet paper orientation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet_paper_orientation). European Union. Prostitution. Ideas. Human trafficking. Books. Drugs (even if I don't do them and never will). Media. Videogames & LOL strategies. Social sciences. Tea. Coffee. Recipes. Projects-that-could-change-the-world. Transnational organized criminality. Kittens. Social psychology. Relationships. Real estate. Politics. TV shows. Wine. Terrorism. International affairs. Diplomacy. Lame jokes. Bolivia. Atheism.

(But as my girlfriend pointed out : "You talking endlessly is somehow strange cuz there's always an end to what you say")

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been on Couchsurfing since 2008 - and this website sure has changed quite a lot. It became more and more difficult to find people with the "original" spirit of sharing things and experiences ; and I kinda miss that.

Until now, I participated mainly by visiting people places all over the world. I couchsurfed in French Guyana, Suriname, Guyana, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, France, Thailand, Burma. And then I stopped using the website for a while ; because of all the changes, because I had the money to go to hotels, because I wasn't travelling alone anymore.

I'm currently back because I miss meeting new people who are not related one way or another to my work. I miss the diversity, in ages, profiles, genders, jobs, way of life ; I miss being forced to go to parties (I hate partying) and finding myself enjoying the moment. I miss those awkwards moments when you don't really know what to say to your host and then, suddenly, he will make the lamest desperate joke that will change the whole thing.

Interests

Anything concerning human being + The European Union ! Brexit was, is, will be a shame. Also photography, theater, literature, social science, newspaper, soapbubbles, macaws, eyes of people, cinema, dance, computers, repairing things, broking things, make a lot of plans for the future that I will never be able to fulfill ... I also have a lot of interest in procrastination.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books more than authors but I could say : Camus, Kafka, Dostoievski, Beckett and Saint-Exupery mostly, but also Proust, Hugo, Dumas, Vasconcelos, Sabato, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Stendhal, Emily Dickinson - a lot. Shakespeare, and Robin SUPERFRAKINGAMAZING Hobb.

OH, and I LOVE zombies movies. Really. Fanatic. That's one of the "really-weird-thing-I-really-enjoy" => I wrote that in 2008, wow, that sure became super mainstream in 2016 *sadly feeling old*

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One day, in Guyana, completely bored, I spent a WHOLE day trying to domesticate a wild Macaw ( beautiful parrot ). And ... we managed to communicate and understand each other !!!! He told me about his wife, their children, their macaws dreams about future, his opinion about the war in Georgia, we spoke about olympic games ... Sometimes I feel like I just dreamed of this amazing encounter.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach how to make veeeeery big soap bubbles.

Well, if you're not interested in soap bubbles, I can teach you some french cooking and how to draw a frog in 6 seconds.

Photography, video-making, hacking skills will do as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good stories, good conversations, good wine, good debates, the-4th-man-for-playing-cards, and my multitask lame sense-of-humor. I'm not a good drinking buddy however, my asian blood doesn't really stand alcohol. Yes, really, look for "alcohol asian blood" on wikipedia, or "Alcohol flush reaction".
