About Me
Hello everybody!
I'm Grischa, originally from Germany, I have lived in Sweden for 7 years before moving to Iceland where I'm now :)
I am a researcher in the area of Software Engineering (IT/Computers, for those who don't know or care). But I'm quite good at leaving my work at university and enjoy lots of other hobbies instead in my free time, e.g., sports, music and photography.
My interests shift a lot over time and I like to try out new things, especially when they seem challenging to me.
I love exchanging travel stories and I have seen and done a great deal in the last years.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As so many CSers, I started because of surfing. However, I quickly figured out that hosting can be fun as well (and is often much easier than surfing). Nowadays, it varies between the two depending on my current lifestyle!
Interests
I like all sorts of sport (e.g. volleyball, hiking, skiing, jogging, surfing, juggling, dancing salsa: you name it!). I used to play in the second-highest volleyball league in Sweden. Nowadays I'm more into jogging and swimming.
I've been playing electric guitar since I'm 16 and played in a couple of bands. Recently, also as a singer.
I'm addicted to photography in all sorts and shapes. I mostly like nature, travel and portrait photography, but i don't miss out any opportunity to get insights into other areas of it as well.
Finally, i love to travel, learn and speak different languages and meet nice people all over the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Either stuff which is outright weird/funny (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Rocknrolla; Lock, stock and two smoking barrels) or documentaries.
Music: Often rock, blues, everything with a nice guitar in it. Depending on the mood or the surroundings almost everything can be nice (electronic, salsa, ..)
Books: I read everything i can get in my hands, but i prefer crime and fiction for a change from work. However, I mostly read whilst traveling as I'm usually busy doing other things while at home.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Worked as a waiter in a restaurant in southern Peru for a couple of weeks - one of the nicest experiences in my life.
Floated down Irrawaddy in remote northern Burma for four days in shaky longtail boats and rusty colonial-time ferries being exposed constantly to curiosly staring locals.
Held a couple of English lessons in rural schools in Western Ukraine, teaching pupils about the possibilities of studying and living abroad.
Teach, Learn, Share
Loads of things to teach. Depends on what you want to learn :)
Options include:
- Playing Volleyball/Beach-Volleyball
- How to take pictures: lots of theory and practice
- How to develop "old" analog films at home
- Playing guitar
- Program robots to take over the world (or other things)
- Juggling with three oranges...or knives
- German, English, Spanish, Swedish ...
I'm keen on learning new things. And always happy to hear stories from all over the world!
