Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
many of my travel experiences before couchsurfing.org was created were possible largely due to kind people who were willing to take a chance on letting me stay at their house. some of them i met randomly at hostels and/or online. so in a way i'm here as a karmic attempt to do the same for others.

Music, Movies, and Books
i dj as a hobby and formerly worked at a recordshop, so my music interests go on and on. my last.fm listening history gives you some idea of what i've been listening to recently, although it's biased somewhat towards what my coworkers will tolerate.
although i'm picky about which djs/producers/bands i like, i'm not picky by genre. i enjoy fluffy inoffensive pop music as well as abrasive experimental noise which makes people inquire what's wrong with my speakers and when that godawful horror will end. i don't know many people that like as much music in terms of variety as i do, but the music i listen to more regularly tends to be more on the independent/obscure side.
a little overview: detroit techno, minimal techno, deep house, micro house, tech house, hip hop, indie rock, drum and bass, dubstep, idm/bleepy stuff - in general, if it goes boom, i'll dig it. more specifically: carl craig, dntel, lamb, herbert, bikini kill, dubtribe, mouse on mars, bjork, tristeza, donna regina, massive attack, moving shadow, kompakt, underground resistance, omni trio, billie holiday, lali puna, cpen, isolee, ursula rucker, shantel, suba, four tet, jon brion, funkstorung, magnetic fields, mum to name a few.
books: you don't have to fuck people over to survive, fortress of solitude, future shock, techno rebels, a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, the missing piece meets the big o, giovanni's room, bel canto. magazines as well. xlr8r, urb, grooves, adbusters, computer music, bust, giant robot, ready made, tape op, resonance, ny times, nest, bitch, dwell.
film: my friend renee says that my favorite movies are 'the kind that make you want to curl up into a ball and kill yourself.' i don't think that's entirely accurate. i also like b-movies and cult films. generally, if it's extremely bizarre and/or
disturbing, i'd probably like it. examples of some things i like: the funky forest,
happiness, battle royale. lain, cremaster cycle, amores perros, our lady of the assassins, life is beautiful, dancer in the dark, brazil, happiness, memento, pump up the volume. our house hosts a movie night pretty regularly but i'm not usually the one who picks the movie because people are tired of my weird taste. ;)
