About Me

Im just trying to enjoy the things that are given at the moment. Observer, ironic, anyway I smile easily, and i like my chaos to be in order, and my order to be in chaos.

“As for me, I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote.” - Herman Melville, Moby Dick

but i never liked to describe myself. I always fail at it. Your call :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I basically participate mostly by trying to share.

I guess living in a really touristy place, Mallorca, made me write the following, as a lot of people miss the original CS point:
I basically would love to spend time with my host/guest. I dont have a particular interest in just having people around my place when i host, if there is no plan on sharing some time. I could do airbnb and get some money instead. CS is not free hotel rooms, no sharing no fun!

I hosted lots of people in a shared flat around 2012, in Palma's city center, with my mate Luis Luna, and later on I did so in my own appartment, mainly hikers and people who dont buy into the Mallorca tourist pack :) Nowadays i dont have space, but when i do, I will be in for hosting again.

About surfing, I have been happily hosted in Riga, New York, several places in Morocco and Basel. This list got bigger during my round the world trip, and im so thankful about it: Nairobi, Arusha, Lushoto, Dar es salaam, Lusaka, Capetown, Reunion island, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur.

Interests

photography, music, truth(s), cooking, eating, CHEESE, wandering in the nature, hiking n backpacking, wildcamping, urbex, wandering late at night in the city, and bar philosophy - yeah, that one that does not have the obligation to make any sense - my fav. Food and languages everywhere I visit, of course

Also now im doing some photo projects, if u would like to take part on them just ask me about! I like documentary photography, so if you have any idea of something/somebody/some event that should be pictured and aired to the world, please tell me :D https://www.instagram.com/alexpsolsona/

After all this "cool" things to do, i also like mundane things as to play football (gee i come from spain after all) or watch tv shows.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: triphop, rock, progressive-rock, KYUSS, funk, metal, cheesy shit, david hasslehoff, old jazz n blues, electro, cumbia and bossa, BOARDS OF CANADA, drum and bass, breaks and jungle, banjo, reggae, indian sitar, oldskool hiphop, afrobeat, waves of the sea... oh, and NINE INCH NAILS.

Books: bohumil hrabal, jack london, paasilinna, carl sagan, theroux, kapuscinsky... many. I prefer meaningful down to earth stuff, or maybe grand and inspiring adventurers/wanderers. When in my twenties, i was a scifi beast.

Movies: I enjoy a lot of movies, but I always manage to forget their names - or the movie itself. Apocalypse Now is kind of a milestone: horror, absurd, existentialism, blah blah.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nairobi to Capetown in public transport
Hiking for days along the Icelandic highlands and northern norway.
Enjoying hospitality of the berber people while wandering in the moroccan Atlas
Eolic generators at sunset @ Oresund bridge.
Arriving to my hotel in 43th st downtown Manhattan, at night, all skyscrapers lit up.
Llucalcari sunset, Tomir sunrise @ Mallorca.
Wijk an zee beach, industrial and natural all in a shocking mix.
Taking a walk around frozen lakes and white forests with mild sun at -23º in Tampere.
Reaching some awesome summits.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess i can teach you the mighty secrets of the spanish tortilla :P Also some photography if you are into it. And of course if you show around in mallorca, im gonna be your best guide, or die trying :)

Learning? well, i like to learn about your local food and drinks, specially the weirdest ones. If you can teach/show me some funky recipes or languages, i'll be the happiest man :)
Music. Show me your local music. Please.
Also, tips and tricks in the mountain, camping, this stuff!

If you visit, I can also take you to some awesome hikes around or wildcamping, if you're into that. I definitely am.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I want to share time and experiences with guests while they're at my place. But you are the guest, suggest some stuff and I will try to find something suitable for you!

As a guest, I am normally open to everything. I tend to like really different stuff, and i can enjoy from a quiet art exhibition, to anything nature, to some underground club with loud music, or mainly walking and improvising. But I guess i am not the luxury venue kind of guy :)

Countries I’ve Lived In
