Overview
About Me
Currently living in Belgium (at least for another few years), I'm finishing my master in international relations. I like to call myself a part-time student and a full-time traveler (although it really seems to be the other way around unfortunately...). The only reason I'm still in Belgium is because I need to finish my degree, but I try to travel as much as possible on my free time.
Not having much money (student life..) doesn't prevent me from traveling, though. Actually, I love to travel on a low budget: camping, couchsurfing, hitchhiking, walking, etc. You get to enjoy the little things, and it's more challenging. And I love to be challenged! I actually don't like when people say they can't travel because they don't have the money. There are plenty of ways to travel really cheaply.
When I finished High School, I went to Australia with a Work&Holiday visa for one year. That's where my passion for traveling came from. It was my first real travel experience and as I was rather young, it has taught me a lot!
Recently, I did an exchange semester abroad in Colombia, and I loved it so much I only think about going back to Latin America hehehe
I'm always happy to share travel stories and learn something new.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of my favorite things about traveling is that I can meet people from all around the world, and learn about their different cultures. I don't really fancy staying at big, expensive hotels when I can stay in backpacker hostels or in other travelers' home. I prefer the friendliness over the comfort.
I like the idea that we don't have to pay for everything in our society. We always find alternatives that give (according to me) better memories than if we took the casual way: if we just stayed at a hotel, we wouldn't meet new people, locals, and we'll just "sleep there". When you're couchsurfing, it's part of the journey, you learn about the country, you make friends, you share travel stories, tips,... Same with hitchhiking!
So yeah, I'm on couchsurfing because I don't only want to travel when I'm abroad, I also want to learn something and meet people.
Interests
Although I'm more into outdoor and mountains, I also enjoy visiting some nice cities from time to time. I'm into anything adventurous, as long as it teaches me something and it's not stupid hazard.
I love hiking and traveling, but I guess it's pretty common around here, isn't it?
I also enjoy hitchhiking when I'm traveling. It takes much longer, but it's much better! You always come back with new stories and you discover the country more than if you just took the train. You also meet new people like on Couchsurfing and that is, to me, the essence of traveling...
... And it's also cheaper!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music : I like all kinds of music. But if I had to name a few : Ratatat, The Cat Empire, Emancipator, Radical Face, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Moriarty, Calle 13, Onda Vaga, Churupaca, etc. Currently I'm more into Indie and Latino music.
I don't read much except for traveling and mountain books. My favorites so far are: 1000 Days of Spring (Tomislav Perko) ; Into the Wild (Jon Krakauer) ; Into Thin Air (Jon Krakauer) ; Au Cœur des Extrêmes (Christian Clot).
Movies : I watch a lot of movies, particularly drama's and biopics. Again, if I had to name a few: Mr. Nobody, Whiplash, The Big Lebowski, Snatch, O'Brothers, Bronson, La Haine, V for Vendetta, Captain Fantastic, Into the Wild, Swiss Army Man, Beautiful Boy,...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'd say take the decision to go live in Australia for a year. It has changed my life so far, as it opened me to the great rewards of traveling
Teach, Learn, Share
I like everything related to the outdoor, but also to the world as a whole: cultures, languages, nature, etc.
I feel also very concerned about environmental issues, and I try to do what I can on my level.
Also, I would be happy to share my travel stories and listen to yours!
I also like to talk about what's happening in the world, as long as it doesn't start arguments! :)
