Overview
About Me
I'm Guillaume, a 28 years old traveler from France, and just finished a 2 years break traveling the world, road-tripping through most of America and exploring about 20 countries. I'm now back in Melbourne, Australia, where I live and work, hopefully on the long term.
I'm easy-going and love meeting new people, even though sometimes a bit shy at first. Always positive and energetic, I enjoy outdoor activities and nature even though I appreciate city life as well.
I love laughing, spending time with friends, taste beer from around the world and enjoy good coffee. I like waking up either very early for surfing or hiking, or very late and stay in all day after a good night out. Sunset is my favourite time of the day. I prefer warm to cold and sun to snow, but enjoy too much skiing to stay away from winter forever. I love science and nature, and was glad I could combine both in my latest job.

My gap year, summary
After leaving my researcher job in Australia in June last year, I started with Fiji, then back to Europe passing by Denmark, I went home for a couple of month in south of France and Spain. I spent a short 10 days in Algeria before packing up for the big trip.
I passed by Norway and Iceland on my way to Canada, where I bought a camper van in Montreal. After driving from Canada to Florida, crossing the USA to California and driving back up the west coast to reach Vancouver, I sold the van and flew to Mexico for more than a month. I then went to Belize, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and finished my travel in Brazil in June.
I then headed back to Europe where I mostly stayed in south of France and north of Spain, but also visited Italy, Slovenia, Ireland, Scotland and Sweden.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Even if I created my profile a while back, I've only started to use CouchSurfing in November 2014. So far, only great experiences, making new friends and unforgettable memories mostly across the Americas and Europe.
I'm travelling a lot so I only had the opportunity to host very few people at home in France. Hopefully more soon in Australia !
Interests
I love traveling, meeting people, photography, surf, ski, hiking, camping, canyoning, american football.
You will have understood that I'm an outdoor person and a nature lover, but I also enjoy city life, great coffee, discovering new beers and go out partying with my friends, as well as reading a good book with a hot chocolate around a fireplace.
Ah, I almost forgot to mention computer science, which is of course my passion, which I translated into a career I love. Waking up and actually looking forward to what you're going to do at work is one of the best feelings!

Music, Movies, and Books
MUSIC: I enjoy pretty much anything, with a preference for acoustic music, Spanish guitar, classic rock, jazz and blues. My all time favorite song: Guns 'n Roses "November Rain".
MOVIES: I love TV shows (Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Californication, etc.), but I also enjoy action movies, thrillers, French comedies. I love plot twists !
BOOKS: Anything as long as it captivates me. My latest reads are: The Travels by Marco Polo, The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Travels with Charley, The Beach, 1984.
FAVOURITE FOOD (extra category that I found relevant): Italian, Thai, (not too spicy), Indian, and - of course - French food, with a preference for the south-western gastronomy which I grew up with.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Saved the life of a sea turtle near the great barrier reef, jumped off a 21m waterfall, worked on research on climate change adaption... I don't know if this is amazing, but these are things I am happy I did and will forever stay in my mind!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be happy to share pretty much anything I can when meeting fellow couchsurfers & hosts. I can help in French or English languages, and in computer science and programming.
I would love to learn how to play a music instrument, how to ride a longboard, learn more about astronomy, and also improve my surfing.
