About Me

Hi! My name is Gunnar, I'm a vegetarian solo backpacker leaving Canada for the first time to Southeast Asia so that I can learn more about myself and the world and hopefully have a positive impact along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard great things about it and I'd like to make some new friends and connections by sharing stories and/or experiences

Interests

I've played both the guitar and the drums for a few years each and while I don't really know any campfire songs, I can jam along to almost anything. I have a relaxed approach to developing these skills

I like to read and write, recently about psychology because I find it is helpful to make sense of my life in this way so that I am more able to determine what I would like to do with it. Lately I've also been cultivating an interest in language and history.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm very open to different types of music. Lately I've been listening to a lot of chillhop, but in the past I've loved jazz, rock, indie, grunge, electronica...

Books that have made a big impact on me lately: Flow (by Mihalyi Czikszentmihaly), Man's Search For Meaning (Victor Frankl), Fifteen Dogs (André Alexis), Power (Bertrand Russel)
I love to talk about the books I'm reading and the ideas they inspire.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cycled 1700km from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vietnam

Teach, Learn, Share

I volunteered as an English teacher in Hanoi, Vietnam for 5 weeks teaching adults and children 2-4 hours per day. It was a wonderful experience

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever would be appreciated. I'm espevially interested in volunteering though I lack experience in most fields.

I'm also quite tidy and respectful of others' values, beliefs, and property.

Countries I’ve Visited

Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada
