ABOUT ME

I am currently doing my PhD on the prevention of the recruitment of child soldiers. I live for travelling and photography.

There is no place I do not want to visit. However, I have a strong bias in favour of the unknown and places others do not want to visit. Specifically war affected regions. I my work is mostly on such regions (conflict journalism).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started travelling seriously (and on my own) when I was 16. During the past 11 years many fellow travellers have helped me and I have helped as many as possible. This is yet another way to help peaple. I have provided a couch to many people in the past (although I did not meet them on this site) and hope to do so for many more people in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Recently met someone (Jos) from the Netherlands in Uganda, he then joined me to the DRC and we met up again in South Africa - met his family since and will meet up again in a couple of week in London.

Picked Andre (also dutch... weird...) hitchicking on the border between Tanzania and Zambia - he drove with me all the way to SA and surfed my couch - he has been back for more surffing since - kelly slater incarnate!

I have surged many couches all over...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dont know which one to put here - dont like to commit to one memory when it is the combination that is so key.

Recently I tracked eastern lowland gorillas in the DRC - that was amazing!!!
