About Me

As any child, I grew up asking a lot of questions about the world I'm living. Almost ten years ago, I learned how to shape this world through photography. Seeing the people on the street, the colors and trying to understand the light made me more curious than I was.

I wanted to be an astronaut or a computer engineer, but now I study Advertising at FUMEC University, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Before I got here, I had some blogs, I photographed people, weddings, I lived in England and organized some personal projects as Minimalist Europe, Blue Inhotim, Human Shapes 0.1, Praça Sete de Setembro and Chove em Fátima.

I worked in a consulting agency with digital marketing, at Totem (an university-based advertising agency) as art director and I participated in some creative contests with La Gente Ayuda a La Gente and El Hambre de Conocimiento campaigns.

Nowadays, I'm studying and working with Branding and UX/UI Design. It was in Photography and Design that I found a way to try to understand how the world works and what my role is in it, that's why I'm always observing, learning, creating and collaborating. I believe in a more harmonious world through diversity, dialogue, exchange and collective thinking. I want to be close, show beauty where it was said not to have, make sense in the lives of others and grow in this process.

Traveling is just a part (a big one) of all of this. I think it's the easiest way to meet different people and being an active learner.

You can see all of those projects and campaigns in my portfolio: gustavomuraro.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of LIFE."

I just love this quote and it reflects exactly why I'm on Couchsurfing. I believe that I have a free spirit, so I need to travel and meet new people, always. And CS is an awesome place for that.

Well, let me see, I love lots of music genres, like Rock, Jazz, Soul, Indie... But talking about bands and artists, I would say Beatles, Doors, Miles Davis, Strokes, Modest Mouse, Phoenix, Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs... But sure, that changes from time to time.

Movies: Mr. Nobody, Black Swan, Amelie, Interstellar, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, Vertigo, Star Wars... Basically I love Hitchcock, Kubrick, Aronofsky, Anderson, Lucas and Nolan.

Books: Tolstoy, Dostoievsky, Fitzgerald, Poe, Hemingway, Conan Doyle, Sartre and other awesome people like them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in 2011, I went to this wedding photography event with my dad (also a photographer) and everything was so amazing. I felt a really good energy in those three days, it was my first time meeting a lot of people that share the same interests that I have. In the final talk, I looked to my father and said: one day I'll be one of these photographers, can be five or ten years, but I'll be there. I was 15 years old. After that, I didn't stoped studying photography and almost every weekend I was working with weddings. I met a lot of new photographers and some of then really liked what I was doing.

For my surprise, it didn't last five or ten years to be on that stage. One year later, I was there. I sure wasn't expecting, but I went. It was happening a debate with new and notorious photographers and the mediator, who was a teacher of mine, called me to join them. I only realized that was a dream coming true after it ended. It was an awesome feeling.
