About Me

CURRENT MISSION

For the last 3 and 1/2 months I have tasted tomatoes with Neruda, sang songs with Lorca, and tilted at windmills with Don Quioteto in Andalucia. It is now time to drink beer with Lao Tzu in Bangkok. I will be arriving in Bangkok on the 15th of December 2014.

ABOUT ME

I tend to think of myself as a...a librarian with an electric guitar. I'm also a bit of a tropical-fruit moralist (I believe tropical fruit is the ideal food for humans). I'm an ethnobotanist-wanna-be, a computer-loving Luddite, and an animal-trivia fiend. (Psst! Raccoons eat banana slugs -- they first rolling them in dirt so that they can be more easily chewed and swallowed.) Also, the crows (and other corvids) in your neighborhood may be "decades" older than you. They live a very, very long time. So be nice to them. Otherwise, when they outlive you, they may not have nice things to say.

PHILOSOPHY

Lao Tzu outlined it, Shakespeare filled in the details, and Terence McKenna extended the boundaries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

, when hosted,
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted fellow couchsurfers (they are among my closest friends as a consequence. But I have yet to lay supine in restful slumber on another CS'ers couch.

I have established four of my most meaningful friendships through CS. (They are listed on my profile).

Interests

Aspiring to 7-ball juggling as well as fruitarianism. I love charades, guitar playing, drawing, ethnobotany, literature & film.

It bewilders me that we, (humans) haven't covered the planet in fruit-trees. The benefits of such an enterprise are limitless.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love the following television series: Lost, Battle Star Galactica (2003), Twin Peaks, Dexter, Six Feet Under, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Sopranos, Firefly.

Books...? I'm a perpetual reader. My undergrad degree is in English Literature. I wallow in fiction and nonfiction with equal recklessness. Right now I'm reading Gomorrah, by Robert Saviano...and I just finished Breakfast of Champions, by Kurt Vonnegut. I'm an author/illustrator myself, with two books out, as well as a rock and roll album. I'm presently writing/composing a musical -- hoping to finish it Bangkok by June 2015 and then pitch it to investors by Fall of 2015.

Music...mostly sound tracks to movies and television serials. Some of my favorite bands and composers are: Mogwai, Michael Nyman, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Philip Glass, and all the 80's pop litany.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once showered outside in a tropical hurricane with a bottle of shampoo and a beautiful woman, in Key West, Florida. It felt as though Nature wanted us to be clean...and loving.

Teach, Learn, Share

All paths are infinitely wide. And most paths are probably right. But the path that emphasizes the creation of art, the joy of sports, the wonder of gardening, and non-violence to animals with a tendency to listen more than talk, may be the most fun and most right for most of us.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The friendship I offer is deep and sincere; the conversation I offer is attentive and stimulating, and playful, and the assistance I offer (in various projects as the need for assistance may be arise and/or be desired (tasks such as cleaning, building, etc.), is competent and cheerful.
