Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on CS as a way to help offer a safe home for travelers coming through the places I call home. I also enjoy meeting new people from various backgrounds. I have been hosted by fellow CS on my travels and have met amazing people and learned about the daily life from a perspective that camping solo or hotels would not offer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Best couch surfing experience was in Iceland thanks to Sindri Þór Þorgeirsson!!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just this last week ( Jan 8th) I was in a hot air balloon in Sri Lanka doing some land cover surveys and crashed in a rice paddy field of a woman who used to be the nanny for the children of a friend of mine in Lebanon! They both evacuated during the July War in 2006 and my friend went to the USA and her nanny returned to Sri Lanka. As we were untangling the balloon from a tree I heard my name being called and I thought to myself, hmm what word in Sinhalese rhymes with Renee ( because it would not have occurred to me that anyone would actually be calling my name at that point!). Then I looked down over the basket and saw Maria! Just a testament to what a small world we live in!
