The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.

- Marcel Proust

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed while traveling in Spain with a friend and also in San Francisco.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My favorite couchsurfing experience occurred during a trip to San Francisco to visit a friend I met in Spain in '02. The house my friend and his roommates were living in had a stand-alone guest nook out back with a mini-courtyard, so it was a great mix of friend time and solo time for writing, etc. My friend Kevin I barely saw while visiting, however I spent a lot of time with his roommate who I have remained in contact with throughout the years. Now when I visit the city, I couchsurf with Beto and acompany him to the most authentic mexican haunts in the city. A great location in Haight/Cole district in an old Row House and a comfy blow-up mattress await me when I visit. A testament to the power of staying flexible and open to who you may meet on the road and the advantages of getting to know a place through the perspective of a local.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived with an elderly woman in Valencia, Spain for 5 months who was stubborn and rough around the edges. One night, the power went out, and we had dinner by candle light and completely opened up to one another. She told me about her family members who had died too young and we formed an unshakeable bond during my time abroad. We picked oranges from trees on the streets and I cut her hair one night. We liked to watch Out of Africa and eat strawberries with fresh whipped cream together.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am fluent in Spanish and have experience living on an organic farm in Peru and working at a farmer's market with organic growers. I practice yoga consistently and like to find people to practice with. Cooking is a passion of mine and I'm always looking to share this with others, too.
