ABOUT US

Matt and I (Amie) meet in Nicaragua working at a surf camp in 2010. I was the cook, and he was a surf guide. He had the job for the whole season, but sadly I had only signed up for 3 months. I left to go back to the United states in hopes to save up to put myself through a yoga teaching course and massage school, while Matt stayed. Through the years we kept in contact, but did our own thing.

Just as I was about to move to Maui to attend Massage school in 2013 (did yoga school in Baja, Mexico in 2011) I drove to Southern Cali where Matt was living and asked him to take a chance and move to Maui with me...he showed up in Maui 3 weeks later, we started off in a van since it's very expansive in Maui and very challenging to find a place to rent especially with a dog.
Now we are happily Married with our 13yr old dog Jaeger living on Maui planning a long term travel trip through all of Mexico and Central America.

**We have been insanely busy and I have been having a hard time finding a moment to check my emails. Sorry! We are putting together a Travel Channel on YouTube that helps travelers find camping and hiking on Kauai, and Maui (working on Maui episodes NOW). The Traveling Together Journal. It's all in preparation/learning for our Overlanding trip through Mexico and Central America starting in June.

PHILOSOPHY

Work to live, not live to work. Always take the more challenging road, it will be the more rewarding path. Soften to the unknown.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have a twin mattress with sheets, pillows and a small cabinet we set up in the living room that does not resemble a living room, but is open because I sometimes use it as a massage studio.

Your welcome to cook here as long as you clean up after yourself. We have plenty of towels and would prefer you feel comfortable showering then be politely smelly :). If we are not working we may like to cook with you, or go out and have a beer.
A regular activity is to walk 5 min down the road to the beach and watch the sunset, or have a surf.
On our days off we enjoy surfing or going for a hike if lame things like grocery shopping are not on our list of things to do.

*PLEASE READ*: Due to the insanely high volume of requesst that we get everyday, and I just can't keep up, and there is no way we can host even half of you. I'm making a personal rule. You need to have a few references on your profile, and at least a couple need to be from hosting someone.
Our space is very personal, and we enjoy hosting, but can't offer our place to more then a couple people a month, and I get 2-7 request a day. Good luck newbies.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I moved to Newport, OR I stayed on a few peoples couches. Since then I have hosted a few people in Newport, OR in 2010, but I have been off couchsurfing since 2011. Matt and I are planning a long trip through Mexico and Central America, and Matt has never experienced couchsurfing, and I wanted to help him understand it, as well as help our profile by being host for the next 8 months. We plan to leave Maui around June 2016
