About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To put my vast knowledge of useful (more often useless) information to good use.

ABOUT ME

I'm curious and inquisitive, and love a good conversation that ends in greater understanding and a few laughs. I've lived in and traveled to several countries in West Africa, a few in Europe, a couple in the Caribbean, one in Asia but unfortunately none in South America (one day!). I have a 70 lbs friendly dog I love but in a truly normal humans-above-animals kind of way. I am excited to possibly help out a traveller. I'm pretty hands-off so if you just want a place to crash, rest and chill, this is the spot. I work a lot, have a very sweet partner and demanding friends so I'll likely be out and about.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy? Keep perspective. Because no matter how hard anyone has it, or how good it is, someone else is having a harder time or more fun.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed a few times in my pauper days and it was a godsend. Now, I hope to provide the same courtesy for another traveller. I've hosted twice and both went super smooth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've Couch Surfed a with several different members and really enjoyed the experience. I felt safe, had a lot of fun, and after met up with former Couchsurfing hosts for drinks. The experience converted a friend from skeptic ("Aren't you afraid he'll kill you?) to true believer ("How do I sign up?"). Now, I host every blue moon and have only had positive experiences.

Interests

I'm taking French classes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite Books: World War Z, The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Discourse on Colonialism, Eats Shoots and Leaves.
Music: Nina Simone, Smashing Pumpkins, Donny Hathaway, Radiohead, and--oh I don't care who knows it!--George Michael. Swoon.
Movies: Any thing mobster related (re: Goodfellas) or scary movie related (re: The Exorcist)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stared at a mice staring at me in the kitchen just 2 feet away and I did. Not. Scream. That's one small step to dealing with my irrational fear of free-range rodents. Also, a huge cockroach flew into my hair, nestled itself, and I didn't automatically die (I just screamed and shook uncontrollably until it flew out of my hair as the entire restaurant looked on).

Teach, Learn, Share

Elizabeth Taylor once said that "The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues."

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Benin, Botswana, Canada, Côte d'Ivoire, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, Norway, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Senegal, South Korea, Spain, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
