About Me
I am currently based in San Sebastian working as an English teacher, which is a huge learning curve for me as this is my first teaching job. Before that I worked as a chef in Derby but now I am surrounded by such fresh ingredients and I cook only for myself and friends, I have found my passion again. Next summer I plan to walk the GR11 and spend a few months living in nature.
I also love playing music and play saxophone with a festival-friendly band. We're called Hallouminati and play balkan influenced dancey ska. Its really fun and we get to play at festivals and gig up and down the UK. Come see us its fun.
In my free time I go climbing at the bouldering wall in Derby and outdoors in the Peak District. I also like to take mindful walks around my local area and into the Peak. I like to cycle. I also like to run up hills.
Three excellent parts of life's great adventure so far have been:
1) a solo trek of the Pennine Way during which I walked up a lot of hills, played my penny whistle, and contemplated life the universe and everything.
2) the Brass Sandwich tour during which me and my mate Dan played 2 gigs with our band Hallouminati in Edinborough and Glasgow, drove to Skye and sailed a very small boat accross a very big sea to Eigg, saw dolphins and puffins, nearly capsized, got scared, and then drove back south and played another 2 gigs in Liverpool and Birmingham.
3) a two week exploration of France during which me and my mate Luke hitchiked and blablacar(ed) to Hellfest near Nantes, saw our favourite bands (Caspian, Electric Wizard, and Acid Kind), then traveled to the Auverngne where we walked up some big mountains and ate really good kebab in a thunderstorm in Le Puy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love meeting new people! I find I enjoy new places way more when I have a local companion to point me in the right direction. I have met only amazing and wonderful people through couchsurfing and every memory sticks with me. When in Strasbourg, me and my host cycled at midnight to the border of Germany and France - a bridge over the Rhine - where sprayed on the floor were the words 'Sans Frontieres'. Without Borders. Couchsurfing is a community which supersedes national boundaries and unites us as people, no matter where we are or what we do. I buy into that.
