ABOUT ME
Hello :) I'm currently working as an au pair in Haute-Savoie, France and enjoying lots of time in the mountains. I'd love to meet more people in this area and to travel to new places in the weekends. I'm into tramping (what we call hiking in NZ), living sustainably and mindfully, and I'm rather passionate about music and art, literature and film also. I have hosted previously and look forward to doing so again in the future, when I return to New Zealand.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love meeting new people that I share interests with. A generic answer for sure but it's true! Whilst you can meet interesting people in hostels it is always so nice to stay with a local and speak another language and I like to share stories and wine and cook with people :) I joined as a host initially and have loved meeting every guest and talking with them. It's a unique experience where you can hang out with people as if you've known them for ages!
I had some incredibly fun times in Montpellier especially with two couchsurfing hosts, involving much hiking, wine, armagnac, dancing around in the living room and a dog called Wazzzzaaa :)
Interests
Music, art, film, books, chemistry! This section is always hard, as there are lots. I also love caring for animals (my two rats currently) and hanging out with dogs and nice people and baking nice vegan things and tramping (hiking) and exploring sunny places and quirky streets. Learning new languages is also cool but my memory is terrible!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: my few current favourites are The Velvet Underground, Big Thief, Mallrat, Courtney Barnett, Lorde, Glass Animals, Yumi Zouma, Angel Olsen, Sylvan Esso, the Beatles, Patti Smith, the xx, the Amélie soundtrack (and lots of French accordion music), Tchaikovsky... the list keeps going!
Movies: again, a list that could go on forever but my all time favourites are Amélie, Léon: The Professional, ALL of Wes Anderson's films, But I'm a Cheerleader, the Harry Potter series, Ferngully, the Lion King
My favourite book without question is Brave New World and I also love the works of Haruki Murakami that I have read so far and an old NZ author called Janet Frame. I am currently reading a particularly captivating Patti Smith autobiography worthy of mention!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ran/jumped down a sand dune mountain in Namibia, wandered up high in the NZ Southern Alps and breathed in fresh mountain air, had a nap on a perfect bed of moss in a patch of sun, survived a weekend stuck on an island during a thunder storm in Fiordland NZ (and also a night in an emergency bivvy on the West Coast of NZ), taken a motorbike out on the bumpiest, scariest backroad ever in Laos in search of a blue lagoon with my sister on the back. Teach, Learn, Share
I know how to cook reasonably well and I can take care of animals, train your dog and hang out with kids and I can teach some Kiwi bushcraft :D
I am forever trying to improve my shabby French and I like to help others improve English if they want to.
I always love to share my favourite wines and beers too
