Hello. I am Hangyeol Kim and you can call me Kim or Lily. I know my name is hard to pronounce for foreigner. Lily is my nickname which made by my friends for funny reason when I visited US as exchanged student. At that time I couldn't pronounce "R" exactly and I said "really" a lot when I talked. So some of my friends called me 'Lily' because when I said "really" they heard it as 'lily'. I love this nickname because this reminds me people who I met and the time in US.

I am graduate student who study sociology in master degree. Now I am preparing apply for ph.d in US. I had double major- sociology and psychology in university. Also I played electronic guitar in university rock band for 2 years even if now I forgot how to play it.

My first trip was US as exchange student. At that time I stayed in Clinton, South Carolina and I did Texas road trip(New Orleans, San Antonio, Austin, Houston) and traveled Atlanta, Charleston, Washington DC and New York. There is a story which make you know what kinds of person I am.

I'd never been abroad before I visit US as exchanged student. When I was US, I visited New York by my self and it was my first travel alone. At the last day of the trip, I realized that I could not take my baggage in Metropolitan Art museum. There was no service for taking big baggage. I wanted to go inside so much because visiting art museum in New York was my purpose. What are you gonna do when this happen? I just asked to take care of my baggage to one of hot-dog sellers and enjoyed museum for 5 hours. After visiting museum I was embarrassed because there were too many hot-dog sellers and it was hard to find which food truck was the truck I left my baggage. I left almost everything. Fortunately a food seller saw this poor Asian girl going around with nervous face and told me "I saw you left your bag next truck". It was lucky so I paid some money for the man who took care of my baggage and got some food from the man who told me where my bag is. I hope this story help you to know about me. I am bouncy, sociable and easygoing person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During travel I am not interested with visiting somewhere famous. Also, I do not care about food because of limit of budget. Instead of food or famous thing, I love to focus on enjoying art and watching gorgeous landscape. However the most important thing is definitely meeting new people who live life totally differently with me.

I know it is hard to keeping in touch with people who meet during trip. The thing is that even though the meeting is short and not forever, the meeting could change life totally. Good conversation with good people makes life different after the meeting. I believe that only the moments is eternal. I hope I can meet nice people through couch surfing. It is good chance to meet new people who grew up in different culture and know how people live their life different way. I already had this kinds of experience when I was in US. It was awesome and gorgeous. Hope it could be happen again.

I can speak English but not fluent. However I am not shy person and I'd never hesitate to speak. If you could be patient when I say "um.. .How can I say this in English... wait. I will check dictionary" and patient with some error in grammar, the conversation would be awesome. Thanks for your kindness in advance!

Interests

I love arts and nature. I love almost every kinds of animal-not only cat and dogs but also reptile-especially snakes. I enjoyed listening rock music and EDM. If you like K-pop I can enjoy it with you.

When I was young I seriously wanted to be artist. My father is poet and unfortunately I knew that living as artist means living without money. Now I want to be a sociologist -ironically being sociologist means no money too..
These days I am researching on romantic relationship and authenticity under capitalistic consumption culture. Also, I am interested in social problem such as high suicide rates and mental illness.

I love people who love arts and who care about social problem.
