About Me

Very active senior and world traveler. Retired Army helicopter pilot and Math teacher. Actively involved in several ministries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Learned about CouchSurffing while staying with friends in Germany, so I thought I would give it a try. Thus far I have had some really awesome Couchsurfs. I believe that CouchSurffing is one of life's greatest adventures, and the people I have met are some of the most interesting and giving people in our world. Summer (2019), I made several new friends CouchSurffing while I explored Central and northern South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean from June through October. I often travel worldwide, sometimes on US Military Space A aircraft. My present passion is to use every opportunity to visit as many far flung places as I can, often going to SCUBA diving destinations, as well as the surrounding countries. If you are interested in a traveling companion, give me a shout-out. I have had the COVID vaccines.

Interests

I really like to do all of these activities and I also like to share these with with others. I am enjoying expanding my SCUBA diving experiences. I just completed the Camino de Santiago from Porto Portugal to Santiago de Compostela.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all kinds of music that has substance, tells a story, has good rhythm and doesn't use filthy lyrics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was married to a truly amazing and wonderful wife for 43 years. We raised 3 outstanding kids, and now I am working on 7 grandkids. Helicopter pilot, parachute jumping, SCUBA diving, and traveling the world. I try to do good things and help out wherever God sends me. Winter of 2018 I was the caretaker and cook in a guesthouse on the Mount of olives, overlooking the old city in Jerusalem, Israel and in summer, 2019, I worked for three weeks on a eco farm in Belize, traveled in Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, St Kitts, Saba, Saint Maarten/St Martin, Puerto Rico, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Chicago. In 2020, I was able to dive in the Maldives and in Thailand before COVID closed down Palau and Chuuk. However, I did get to travel throughout Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam. It seemed like I was one step ahead of COVID closures. I had hoped to visit friends in South Africa, Israel, and Australia, as well as make new friends throughout the Pacific. I arrived in Australia two days before 2-week quarantines were mandated, and one day before all state borders in Australia were closed. Anyway, too much to tell here. This summer, 2023, I was able to go SCUBA diving for six weeks in Indonesia, Philippines, Palau and Chuuk. Then a friend and I walked the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage (The Way) in Portugal and Spain for two weeks and then traveled by Eurail Pass through much of Europe for two months. This was an amazing experience that I really like to share with people I meet.

Teach, Learn, Share

Because I am a teacher, I love to learn and to teach. I enjoy many varied experiences as I travel. As you can probably tell from my interests, I enjoy exciting and challenging situations. I am open minded and accepting of all different cultures. Also I am very capable at fixing and repairing all types of things, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. God has recently taught me to say yes to new experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great conversation, fixing things, and much experience. Very clean and also very helpful. I like to buy food and share cooking meals and learning local dishes with new friends.
